Today's mass included a quip on gay marriage
My priest, Father Bill, is so cool!
I live about 20 miles from New Paltz, NY. Today's sermon was about transfiguration, especially practices such as asking for help, praying, and accepting sacred vows of marriage.
Father Bill mentioned that many people were currently traveling to our area to search out the transfiguration experience in the form of marriage.
A buzz stirred in the congregation.
Without further reference to gay marriage, the priest stated that we should all seek out transfiguring experiences.

It was a pretty interesting mass. I don't know what the church thinks regarding gay marriage. I read in Doonesbury that gay marriages used to be celebrated in the Catholic tradition about six hundred years ago. What say you, DU?

1. Didn't read Doonesbury today...
But there was a very well researched book published in the mid-80's asserting that the first religiously consecrated marriages in the Catholic church were same gender marriages. Unfortunately, I don't recall more details about the book or author.

3. The toon I'm referring to is old
from when Mark first hit on a man ("Your gay right?" "No. Married. And very religious." "urgh!").

2. Of all the Catholics I know
All are tolerant of the idea of gay marriage.

It seems to be the fundies who are so bent out of shape. The most insecure about their own sexuality, I guess.
