How is everyone giving money - DNC, Kerry, Moveon...
Edited on Thu Mar-04-04 10:50 PM by Woodstock
I've given a little to the DNC this year, but that's it so far (this is a question just about election donations, giving to environmental/womens orgs are an ongoing thing.)

Say, for the sake of argument, $500 is in play. How should it be divided?

DNC, Kerry for President, Moveon.org seem like solid choices. Give equal amounts to each? More to one in particular?

What about giving to key Senate or House races?

What is everyone's game plan?

1. Then give it all to Kerry
Give to Kerry until you hit the limit. Then give to the others.

4. I don't have a lot of money
and I sometimes worry that my $25 or $30 or $40 is a wash because then I get more letters asking for more money, and I know it costs money to mail the letters.

For what it's worth, I donated a small sum to Dean last summer. My husband and I gave $50 to Kerry recently. I promised $30 to the Dem senator in Minnesota, where I have relatives. I gave around that sum to Boxer (I live in CA). I think that Move On is a good cause too, but I haven't donated to them yet.

8. I can't believe the amounts I have donated in the past year.
This is from someone who has probably never donated to any campaign in my fifteen years with an income. If I had 500 additional dollars, I would give 250 to Kerry, 100 to MoveOn, and the other 150 to small statewide/local campaigns. I would not donate to the DNC.

13. Directly to the campaigns of my Federal reps
Senator Patty Murray, Congressman Rick Larsen. If I have any spare bucks(like many others that is a big if).

Gave to my state Congressman Hans Dunshee last time he ran. Gotta help my local and state Dems first right now when I have it. School board candidates too.

14. I haven't given money to the DNC this time (but that may change)
Edited on Thu Mar-04-04 11:53 PM by Zinfandel
I've supported and will continue to support Dennis Kucinich, hopefully his message will be heard) I don't like Terry McAuliffe, it seems it's just a corporate money game to him...But I support MoveOn.org...absolutely no better place to put ones money, also, California Victory Fund, the Sierra Club, the ACLU, Planned Parenthood, some progressive internet sites (including this one) and my local politics is a must.

I try and do what I can, (every dollar helps).

Think I may give a few more bucks to MoveOn.org tonight.

(I used to give to "People For The Ameican Way" but man, I'm stretched).

17. DNC: nothing, nada, zero, zip
My local reps and US Congresswoman: yes, they know my name and I know them
MoveOn.org: yes, for their ad campaign
Kerry: yes -- and I heard today that there's a move afoot to funnel donations to Kerry through the Dean organization, to bundle them and deliver to Kerry with a message to remember where it came from. I want him to win, and I also want him to remember the Dean phenomenon.

DNC can take a flying leap, as can the DLC. They have not been doing a very good job of representing me for quite some time, especially between 2000 and 2004.

If I had $500 to divvy up? I haven't bothered to add up the small sums I've spread around these past few years, but it's at least that much and I've made a point of choosing organizations that oppose Bush and his policies, and that would irritate him if he but knew. That's what I did with that stupid tax return, split it among liberal/progressive groups in my area-- and I told Planned Parenthood I was giving it "in honor of" Bush and that they should send him a card telling him so.

20. I hope Dean has someone better to handle money this time
Edited on Fri Mar-05-04 08:36 AM by Woodstock
I gave a lot to him last year, and am still bummed with the lousy Trippi ads it went for, blowing it all so fast, etc. I mean, *I* manage money badly, but it's not my claim to fame. I didn't expect *THEM* to.

I think I'll give most of what I give to Kerry directly, and hope like hell he's got someone good in charge of spending it.

I wonder when the 527's will know more about the FEC spending restrictions, and how they plan to counter them.

23. I give $25 to the DNC monthly
I'm not convinced this is the best thing to do because I have many reservations about the DNC, but I don't want my money to only go to the Democratic nominee for President, I also want to help in Congressional races as well...goddess knows we need it.

We cannot let the scum buy this thing again. If you have $500, give it to Kerry to launch a strong campaign. Then, go break open your rainy day piggie bank and give to other groups like MoveOn to help them get out their excellent ads...........today, folks, IS the rainy day.
