Passion fever seems to be over already. I'm making a Jesus movie.
Edited on Sat Feb-28-04 03:57 PM by Liberal_Guerilla
I just noticed that none of the news channels are talking about the movie and there are no passion threads in DU(other than this one). Finally, the noise was really getting on my nerves. Plus the free marketing that Gibson got was ridiculous. But he did prove that you don't have to spend a dime on marketing. Play to the lowest common denominator and piss someone off, that is all you need to have your half baked movie opened in every city.

I've decided that I am going to make a movie about the liberal Christ. That ought to piss a few people off and make me and Jesus a ton of cash. I'm gonna use homeless people for my cast and crew. I can make the movie for under 5,000. And I already have a load of proof that Jesus was a liberal, heck it's in the Bible. And he was no DLC liberal. Nooooo, my friends, he was a bleeding heart commie pinko socialist sort of liberal. And that is really why Jesus was killed.

I can't wait to have all of that free marketing courtesy of the media tramps. I'm not sure if the story line should reflect biblical times, like having to film in the dessert. Or do more of a related story like in the city where Jesus is actually a persecuted homeless man who is making the homeless uprise by encouraging them to hold tyheir heads high against society and maintain their dignity. but Jesus gets beat and shot by a groups of cops who have had enough of his rantings.

It could go either way.

1. Maybe you can get a boycott
From http://www.pabaah.com

THat would raise your profile. You ought to set up a website promoting your film and e-mail them; I'll bet they'd immediately slam into you.

2. Yeah, it seems as though the media has quit talking about it.
But I have to wonder why? Maybe it's that now that people are seeing the movie, they are forming their own opinions of it. I really don't know.

4. Excellent idea!
Instead of focusing on the blood and agony of the crucifixion, tell the story of his teachings, his good works. I'd throw in a few bucks to help you out.

5. We have an investor already.
Now that's exciting. I don't want to just tell a story of his life. i want to discuss his liberal politics and how it is entwined with his spirituality and beliefs. I want to make a movie that we libs can be proud of. I want to make a movie to reminf everyone who Christ really was.

6. you can use the passage where
You can use the passage where Jesus tells a man to sell all his possessions and give the money to the poor, and that it is as difficult for a rich man to get into heaven as it is for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle.

10. Absolutely.
And the scene in the market/church, where jesus goes nuts and tears down the marketplace/church. It is a very rich subject, his whole life dictated liberal policies.

8. The people seeing the movie are laughing
at the claim the movie is anti-semantic. They are comming out moved beyond words seeing in color "just how much Christ suffered to save mankind." The media can't be seen being a tool to promote Christianity or more specific Christ. Its ok if the media bashes Christianity and its proponents but to promote it? Gotta remember them ratings.

11. Thinking about it.
Edited on Sat Feb-28-04 04:09 PM by Liberal_Guerilla
I have a digital movie camera, different high end editing tools and a DVD burner, and some talent in editing. I just need to work on the screen play, most of it is already written in the Bible. I want to do it nice and classy yet on the total cheap.

If done well, We could get it played at Sundance and other independent film events, plus Hollywood would love this Jesus flick.

has always been Tony Shalhoub; I don't know what Jesus looked like, but if I had to guess, he would resemble Tony more than the Anglos that usually play Jesus in these movies.

You could even have a reluctant police chief who is going after this jesus only because some rapid freepers are calling for him to be put to death.

24. If you haven't seen it
Then how can you fairly refer to it as "a half baked movie"? My suggestion, go see it, form your own opinion. Too many people listening to the media again. And we wonder why this country is in the shape it is in. I did see it. It was a wonderful movie, very accurate, and very moving. One I will never forget.

36. My bet...
It seems to me the people reporting on the movie have not actually WATCHED the entire movie. It was very accurate and followed the bible. There a few subtle things that are not directly addressed in the bible but those were very few.

27. I've been tempted to...
... to make a ridiculous Jesus movie in the style of 1960s Italian Hercules epics, getting things slightly wrong, mixing mythologies, atrociously dubbed.

of course, just talking about it might get me a warning and a deleted post! Apparently, we're no longer allowed to make jokes about Jesus. Saying "Jesus is back, and this time he's pissed." is apparently incredibly offensive.

Someone please let Monty Python know.

37. If You Can Find it,
one of the best sources is "The Politics of Jesus" by John Howard Yoder.

His method is surprisingly simple: Go through the Gospel of Luke verse by verse and discuss the political and social implications of everything Jesus said. Everything is straight from the horses's mouth.

Going simply from the words, it would be impossible to make a film about Jesus which DOESN'T depict him as a liberal.
