Silly Me! I *Just Now* Discovered "The News Hour" and "BBC World News"...
on my local PBS station.

How wonderful! FANTASTIC!!! It's just amazing!!

I've been cable-news free for so long now... you'd think I would have forgotten how HORRIBLE cable-news was. But I didn't. My memory of how horrible cable-news was (IS!) made me appreciate "News Hour" and BBC News.

No news ticker. No web-page style news. No headline banners. No spin. No tilt. -- I now record it with my DVR so that I can watch it just before bedtime.

Why didn't you guys MAKE ME watch it sooner?

-- Allen

1. Oh Alan, didn't you know about them?
They are the only news worth watching, although, I do watch the others to keep up with the propaganda.

2. Which is why the Busheviks of England want the BBC destroyed
Like Orwell's "1984" NOTHING should remain to remind the Proles of a different world.

When BBC goes under, and it might happen faster than you think, what then?

Totalitarian Darkness descends...

Jim Lehrer's style is considered boring to some, but I see it as old-fashioned delivery of news. Not fluff news - but the real thing.

BBC is, of course, high quality and a great source for international news.

4. BBC on the net
type in bbc in google and then pick on their stations that you want - i believe bbc 4 and 7 are the best and you hear the real news online plus lots of very humourou progams.

8. Well, even 'NewsHour' gets on your nerves after a while
Edited on Wed Feb-25-04 04:52 PM by pmbryant
I've been watching it for years, but it still annoys me greatly rather frequently. Way too many long and not-so-hard-hitting interviews with Bush regime officials. Way too many predictable interviews with sitting Senators. Way too many predictable conservative vs liberal back-and-forth discussions. And not very much original reporting.

But it still is vastly preferable to cable news, no doubt.

And periodically they hit one out of the park. Their business reporter (Paul Salman (sp?)) was brilliant back when all the corporate scandals were in the news.

So I still watch fairly regularly. :-)

10. The only thing that gets on my "NewsHour" nerves ...
Edited on Wed Feb-25-04 04:54 PM by Tracer
... is that gawdawful trumpet music between segments. I can't get to the mute button on the 'clickah' fast enough!

12. It Doesn't Bother Me Yet...
Is it a trumpet or French horn? Just because it's FRENCH, I'd like to think it's a FRENCH horn. LOL.

14. Too funny
I hate the stripey type background, it looks so dated
I am also having a problem with Gwen's teeth, they are too white and distract me from what she is saying
BBC Radio 4 is the best
