I honestly don't know much about this - but what's the story on this argument that Gore tried to block military votes...

1. He did
But it was because they were postmarked late. Look, I was in the military living overseas for a full four years. I KNOW FOR A FACT that you get plenty of time to get those in the mail, and they SHOULD have been tossed.

2. Amen
He tried to get the ones thrown out that were coming in late, were not properly signed, etc...

You know, the phony last minute ones that were overwhelmingly for Bush...

3. many were postmarked after the deadline is what I remember
I thought and still think that a state would have rules that would have to be followed.

I was told that sometimes military on ships, etc, might have difficulty getting vote mailed with ok postmark.

I thought and still think that if this is a real problem states would have some means of handling this.

Apparently not, and the loudest screamers 24/7 (bushco) caused the democrats to decide the only way to shut them up was to give in.

5. Gore didn't like ballots with NO postmarks being counted
but he was over-ruled by Lieberman. Big whoop. Rules mean nothing to Republicans.

6. As I remember it:
Katherine "Bush-Whore" Harris had a stack of them on her desk to write dates in for because the military absentee votes don't get a postmark since they aren't charged for. I think it had something to do with hand-picking the valid ones out of the pile and "validating" them for inclusion.
