Security Impact of Rapid Climate Change
Frightening -- the DOD's look at the wars to come because of global climate change. And it may be within our lifetimes.

-----------------

"For the Record: Security Impact of Rapid Climate Change

"For nearly a quarter-century, the debate over potential negative impacts from global climate change has involved scientists and a smaller handful of politicians who have made it an issue of concern. However, Pentagon planner Andrew Marshall, who heads up the DoD Office of Net Assessment and has been an “out of the box” theoretician for the department since 1973, last year ordered up a long-range forecast of how a rapid onset of global warming could affect the security of the United States and its allies.

The study, written by analysts Peter Schwartz and Doug Randall, provides a dire scenario of potential catastrophic impacts from global warming on the natural resources, political and economic systems and day-to-day life not only of the United States but the entire world."

2. Thanks for posting this
Climate change, dwindling oil and gas production: the New American Century isn't going to be fun, is it?

It's the unprecedented convergence of environmental and energy crises which accounts in large part for the end of democracy in America. The times are increasingly grave, and "the will of the people" is a costly extravagance.

4. Security is not the only issue at hand
but thanks for pointing that out. Folks who blow off environmental issues might listen when the security issue is brought up.

How Global Warming May Cause the Next Ice Age...
by Thom Hartmann

While global warming is being officially ignored by the political arm of the Bush administration, and Al Gore's recent conference on the topic during one of the coldest days of recent years provided joke fodder for conservative talk show hosts, the citizens of Europe and the Pentagon are taking a new look at the greatest danger such climate change could produce for the northern hemisphere - a sudden shift into a new ice age. What they're finding is not at all comforting.

5. exactly...
enviro issues are always dismissed as being "outside" other human concerns...

...which shows, really, how woefully alienated from the biosphere we've become...
