CNN: "The capture of bin Laden could benefit the President...
...and his re-election, but the Pentagon is quick to point out that this is not a political move, just as the capture of Saddam Hussein was not a political move."

Just so you know.

This was from the Lou Dobbs show today. I did not catch the name of the White House reporter offering this info. I will update this post with the transcript link when it's available on the CNN Web Site.

Someone from the military also expressed "confidence" that they will get bin Laden "sometime in the next year." Is that the same as "before November?"

3. They'll do a hard sell on...
..."We have to come into Pakistan. He already tried to kill your President twice."

They were very careful to get that into the story..."They tried to kill him, but he's opposed to the U.S. crossing the border."

5. How do they know they'll get him if they do go into Pakistan>
and if a new offensive is what is needed to get obl, why didn't they do this last year, or the year before?

6. Here we go
They've got the press building it up, so it's just a matter of time before they pull him out. Our guys better think of something to counter, because I really certain this administration is going to bring bin laden out just before November.

9. Well, IF they have him (or get him) before November...
...then the best move for any Democratic candidate would be to take the strong anti-Bush rhetoric and blow it out their shorts. They will have to focus completely on their own proposed policies.

The best...ab-so-frigging-lutely best "early Christmas present" you could give Karl Rove would be an attack...real, imagined, it doesn't matter...on the man whose administration went after OBL and "got 'im."

There would be a period, brief or not, where the "high" of the capture would effectively overshadow any job loss numbers.

Here's Chris Matthews on his post-NH coverage last night:

"It‘s clear the president is trusted now, eminently, in this country to protect our interests. He was heroic in the days after 9/11. And he will never be forgotten for that. But there is a question of fact here now. And the fact is, can we trust anybody on these weapons issues?" (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4087417/)

So do the math. This is all that the Republicans have. They will go after it. Let's hope they fail miserably.

Even if they had him on ice for two years and pulled him out as a political stunt?

the best move for any Democratic candidate would be to take the strong anti-Bush rhetoric and blow it out their shorts.

Not buying it. The strong anti-Bush rhetoric is what draws the clearest distinction. Rolling over and playing dead is playing right into their hands.
