Local National Guard unit looking to fill 48 open positions
Edited on Tue Jan-27-04 10:58 AM by freddie57
The 139th. Signal/airlift corp wants to fill out the positions they have available, so they ran a large article in yesterdays paper making it sound like they were offering roses and sunshine.

About halfway down they let it be known that members of the unit were subject to callup during the "war on terror" and that they could be activated for two years.

Myself I'd call what they're doing deceptive advertising, if the link works you can read the article here, http://www.stjoenewspress.com type in missouri national guard and it'll take you to the story.
The link is too long.
That link doesn't appear to be working let me work on it.

Suicides Among US Soldiers
In Iraq In Meteoric Rise

LONDON (IslamOnline.net) -- In a rate considered abnormally high, the overall suicide rate among U.S. soldiers in occupied Iraq is running at an average of 13.5 per 100,000 troops, while one in every five soldiers will suffer from chronic distress in the future, U.S. military psychiatrists said.

The real rate might never been known as the U.S. Defense Department imposes a news blackout on suicides in the chaos-mired country and refuses to say which of its "non-combat" fatalities have been self-inflicted, The Guardian reported Sunday, January 25.

In terms of figures, at least 22 soldiers have killed themselves so far in Iraq, which accounts for about 7 percent of all service deaths in Iraq, said the British daily.

One of the suicide cases was Army Specialist Joseph Suell, who wrote a last letter home to his mother before he killed himself by an overdose of a painkiller last June.

12. Sure, if your Dad is a Congressman or head of the RNC.
If not, blow it out your ass.

I don't know who in their right mind would wanna be in the Guard/Reserve nowadays. It's got all of the downside of being in the Army (shitty pay, dangerous work, long periods of time away from home) with none of the benefits (guaranteed job, great pension and benefits).

Sure, I'll spend one weekend a month and one month a year in the Guard, then every other year, get called on a year long deployment to a hostile Arab country while my boss has to fill in for my job with someone who won't get called up every other year.

10. Remember the "Home Guard" during WW2?
Absolutely surprised that junior and Mr. Ridge didn't try and create a Home Guard to go along with the HomeLand Security.

What about that kid who wants to start a caucasian club? Of that other kid who idolizes Michael Savage? And what about all those posters over at FreeRepublic? Come you people! Fight for your cause!!!!

13. I don't think they'll join this unit they're already there
In fact like our other local unit they got called back, along with many other regional units. The NG has always helped in time of disaster, I hope to hell there aren't any big floods or tornados this spring.
