Jennings quotes WH: "Saddam was threat to US.... WMDs or not!"
Peter Jennings, finishing up a report on David Kay's resignation/WMDs/Iraq, quoted a WH spokesmodel as sayhing that whether or not Saddam had weapons of mass destruction, he represented a threat to the US.

he just let the quote drop without comment, using it as an aside, almost, before ending his story.

anybody else catch that?

seems to me like it should be a much bigger story, right?

what if they'd made that assertion a year ago?

"Well, Stretch, while Saddam possesses no weapons of mass destruction, we have it on good authority that he still represents a grave, immediate, mortal threat to the security of the United States of America"

"Mr. President, if he has no weapons of mass destruction, exactly HOW does he represent a threat to the United States.?"

"Saddam Hussein, Sept. 11, AlQaeda.....next question........Big Stretch?"

6. I don't know. Brokaw said yesterday we'd be hearing a lot more.
As for Jennings, what's he supposed to do? Begin shouting "liar, liar?"

9. SURE!!!
actually, I thought the way he just let it slide in passing was very curious.

showed poor news judgment, at the least.

if the media had any guts at all, this would have been leading off.

course, I'm a bit biased and all

maybe they should keep showing the scream, for the 674th time (Dean actually said to tweet that it had been shown on TV 673 times in the last week)

as has been said here already, my guess is this story will go nowhere

hope I'm wrong

11. After doing a report about how Kay expects no WMD's in Iraq
the WH statement just lies there like a day old fish on your kitchen counter. The "media" is not going to call * a liar, but they generally will report it when someone else does it. I think that is their job when they are presenting the news.

I'm absolutely certain that if Jennings ever did start calling * a liar, he would never stop.

4. We better check with Dennis Miller
and get an analysis of Jennings' eyebrow movements when he read that.

he doing some sort of lie detecting on the dem candidates, or what?

he's ALL over the place these days, radio/TV ads for lots of products, as well as promoing his new show.

he was even on my channel 30 CABLE guide, dissing Al Sharpton's rambling......that's as much as I heard before flipping.

and to think I actually paid money to see him live, about 12 years ago.
