The latest on Dean from CNN
Candy Crowley just reported that today Dean called for Greenspan's resignation but later stepped away from that remark. Another gaffe, I suppose?

Geez.

1. That wouldn't throw world markets off or anything...
Bush is the problem. Greenspan just works here.

2. How pathetic...

That anyone on DU would take Candy Crowley's word before knowing the story, just to get in a shot at a Dem candidate is disgusting.

7. What Sagan said ^^^^
but more broadly stated.
No one should take any TV commentator's word about such matters.
Wait for the full story to come out.

3. If he stepped away from that remark then yes it is a gaffe
Edited on Fri Jan-23-04 06:22 PM by Toots
Greenspan needs to go. He is a pompous ass and has done a lot of harm by being political instead of true to economics. He knows the tax cuts devastated the economy and hasn't made a realistic effort to turn us around. He needs to go.

4. i agree
Dean was the first candidate that I had ever donated to. I credit him with being the first candidate to really take the fight to Bush and show the democrats that they could not win without attacking the opposition. That being said, one of his traits that made him popular with me and many othersc, the fact that he would shoot from the hip and say what he really meant, is a trait that would not play well against Rove's machine. Rove would have his "gaffes" plastered across our tv sets 24/7 if he were to get the nomination.

6. Have another twinkie Candy.
That is not what he said. He said he didn't like that Greenspan did not speak up enough against the tax cuts and the problem with the deficit. Which O'Neil actually talks about in "The Price of Loyalty" Dean did mention someone he would put in that job who would not be so political. Greenspan can't have that job forever. He would retire at some point if he weren't let go. I think Dean made a very good point. Don't believe anything she says. She had so much fun bashing Gore in 2000 she's taken up Dean this time around.

Oh by the way Candy, you're not fooling anyone standing sideways...

9. I saw him talk to Judy Woodruff and she
asked him did he think Greenspan should resign and he said no of course not along with some other info. I think Candy Curl has joined Jayson Blair and needs a little help out the door.

8. You know what, I wouldn't give a grain of salt for
what any of the media are saying about Dean. He has become the target and the smear is on. I believe the remark on Greenspan was that he wasn't vocal enough about opposing Bush's economic policies. I thought the same thing too, but I am not a candidate and no one quotes me. I don't ever remember him saying Greenspan should resign.

As far as gaffes, if the other candidates had every word they say parsed, twisted and remolded, I am sure the gaffes would be astronomical. But they are not the target. They are afraid of Dean and will smear him every way they can. This is the same thing the RW media does to Hillary Clinton.

Edited on Fri Jan-23-04 06:33 PM by MoonAndSun
we now take Candy Crowley totally at her word after we all know that she is a bush* asskisser. What has happened to some of our so called Democrats that they immediately believe every word that comes out of these bush*bots mouths?

Oh, wait it was about Dean, never mind. (sarcasm off)

11. Dean's quote, from the Washington Post
Edited on Fri Jan-23-04 06:36 PM by kstewart33
Appearing at a town hall meeting in Londonderry, N.H., Dean responded to a citizen's question about Greenspan by saying, "I think Alan Greenspan has become too political." Dean added: "If he lacks the political courage to criticize the deficits, if he was foolish enough -- and he's not a foolish man -- to support the outrageous tax cuts that George Bush put through, then he has become too political and we need a new chairman of the Federal Reserve."

Sounds like he would encourage Mr. Greenspan to resign, no?
If he later told Judy Woodruff that Greenspan should not resign as was earlier posted, geez that's another gaffe to add to the list.

I am no Dean basher. But I am astounded at his political deafness. He's on his last legs and he's challenging Greenspan? What the heck is that?
