A Newt Gingrich Moment
This is an interesting review of the opportunity to reinvigorate the minority voting base.

3. This is nothing new here
Tom Daschle and Terry McAuliffe have long being seen as unremarkable leaders for their respective positions. To get this country in progressive mode again it is going to take very strong leadership. Under Mr. Bill Clinton there was some progressive work being done at the same time there was a strong conservitive movement with Newt Gingrich and his Contract with America. Mr. Clinton’s administration could almost be one of the status quo because of the trade off with the conservative movement. After the Mr. Bush Jr. administration the status quo stance will not work to keep this country in a mode of positive development.

Saying to people we may not like each other, but does not mean we cannot get along is a start. The reality of it is that the world is not getting a bigger, yet the human population is. I do not know exactly how all of the religious right feels about Armageddon, there sure seems likes some of the fanatics want to speed up the process. It sure seems strange during the Mr. Jimmy Carter years when he had Israeli Premier Menahem Begin and Egyptian President Anwar el-Sadat sequestered at Camp David for the peace agreement between Israel and Egypt without the religious interference. We need a leadership that says, we may not like each other; here is a way we can get along in a positive manner.

Race has always been a problem in this world. Some people seem to go looking for a way to chop somebody at the knees to make themselves stand over that person. This was evident at the last Democratic debate with Mr. Al Sharpton going after Mr. Howard Dean for not having a minority in his cabinet. Mr. Al Sharpton did not start out with just with the cabinet and could not make a issue out of that at first but would not let up of making a non issue that Mr. Dean did not put minorities into positions of power. Ms. Carol Moseley Braun set issue correctly when she added to the conversation that race was not an issue with Mr. Howard Dean, that race was an issue with Mr. Al Sharpton to prove it. Then there is a problem of laying a wreath at a respected civil rights leader and in the same day appointing a racist to judgeship position in the 4th Appeals Court. This is not going to lead people into a positive gesture to get along with each other.

At this point of time we need strong leadership for a progressive movement to undo the damage of the past 12 years of the conservative take no prisoners movement. There will be debate, lots of debate. It does take longer to grow something than to kill it. This is not going to be neither pretty nor easy. The strong leadership will need to come from more than one person who will work with each other. They may not like what each will say or do all of the time but the grassroots need to understand that the leadership needs their support and input to change the course of this great nation. That is the way to be remarkable.
