reporting from OUR Nation's Capital...just drove by the White House
Edited on Sun Jan-18-04 07:19 PM by amen1234

...as I got close to the WH, near "I street" and 17th, there were TWO people dripping wet, each pushing a shopping cart in the cold rain, shopping carts overflowing with plastic bags, old stuff, wet blankets...one person had a bad limp, and the other person was all hunched over, no umbrellas or plastic coats...there is a Church near the White House that tries to let homeless people sleep on the floor, but too often overflows and must turn people away...over 60% of the homeless in DC are OUR Veterans...OUR Veterans....there are homeless women and whole families with children, who have NO shelter here in OUR Nation's Capital...tonight...

....it will be about 22 degrees in DC tonight, and some people may die tonight, freeze to death in America, just blocks from the White House....

this afternoon, I was volunteering at the John Kerry Headquarters in DC...I was born in 1950, during the Korean war.... January 20, 2003 was my FIRST protest ever....

and in the last two weeks, I have joined the Kerry team to fight for MY country...everyone at Kerry's campaign is upbeat, patriotic Americans....seniors, middle-aged, college students, all races and ethnic backgrounds, and religions...enthusiastic yet very serious hard-working people, no football games today, just serious hard work...it feels good to be fighting to take MY country back from the radical-religiously-insane-people who stole MY country....like many Patriotic Americans, I believe that Kerry is the ONLY candidate who can demolish the "bush*-Iraq-war-pResidential-campaign"...it must be a decorated Veteran to beat bush*....

struggling people with their worldly possessions in sloppy wet shopping carts, walking through the cold rain, near the White House tonight, nowhere to sleep, human beings who may freeze to death tonight, in OUR Nation's Capital, right outside the White House.... reminded me of everything that is WRONG with the "bush*-perpetual- wars"...

4. It's horrible
My stomach churns when I think about what so many people are going through.I just mentioned to my husband the other day about how no candidate ever mentions the homeless and the working poor. It's always the "middle" class. Well,it's not just the middle class that's having it rough. It's the poor people who have to live like you just described what you saw. It's all over the country...and it shouldn't be like this. Instead of Iraq and Mars....how about throwing a few billion to build more afforable housing....or places where people can go to stay until they can find a job and their own place? Our Veterans living under bridges is uncalled for. It's so easy for these freepers and the Bu$h cabal to wave their little American flags and claim their "patriotism" and show support for our troops in Iraq but where are they when it comes to the veterans who are homeless and forgotten? The hypocrisy is overwhelming. :grr:

5. it's really overwhelming to see...although I work through my Church
as much as possible, the collapse of OUR economy and the sucking out of $$$BILLIONS for war...the solutions must come from OUR government...Churches just cannot do it...it is like fighting against the Missippi River during flood stage....

as it stands under the shrub...homeless, damaged, and pushing a shopping cart in the freezing rain is what OUR Iraq Veterans can look forward to....let's fight for a Democrat to take the White House away from the reTHUGlican squatters...a leader to take us out of this nightmare...

it horrifies me to see OUR Veterans huddled over steam vents in OUR Nation's Capital....shellshocked, chemically injured, damaged, homeless, jobless....in the midst of great wealth...some of the wealthiest property in OUR Nation overshadows OUR homeless Veterans...
