Did I miss the discussion on the ACLU defending Rush's rights here?
I was surprised to see it on the tele yesterday afternoon (was having online problems) and wonder if Rush is still going to refer to them as commies and such. In my opinion they are doing the right thing, but I still hope Rush gets it "in the end".

1. We just don't really care about a junkie that can't get clean I guess...
I feel sorry for folks with addictions. They need all the help they can get.

2. I agree
I am very proud of the ACLU (of which I am a card carrying member). It's important to fight for your principles, even if they end up defending your enemy. Otherwise, you are no better than they are.

3. There was a discussion
But really, what was there to discuss?

ACLU defending a slimebag's constitutional rights? Well, that's not news -- it's what they do. They have always been an equal opportunity defender of the Bill of Rights.

Rush being a hypocrite? Again, not news. It's what Rush does best.

I guess it was sort of a 'dog bites man' story to me.

4. They defend best those who despise them the most.
25 years or more ago they lost a significant number of members defending the Nazi's right to march near Chicago.

This isn't a popularity contest for them. In fact I think they chose the controversial and despised just to make the point that everyone'srights need to be protected for anyone's to be protected.

I'm a card carrying member who wouldn't select 1/3 of the slime they chose to defend, but what they defend is vital, especially now.

5. Deliciously Ironic (ACLU Link)

I hope Rush catches on that the ACLU exists to protect the rights of ALL citizens.

6. I thought that the new airline "coding" and Patriot Act etcetera...
...pretty much opened up our medical records to anyone.

Am I mistaken?

9. I really don't know
the totally unpatriotic act has how many pages? I'm sure there is somethng in there gving them the right to get whatever they want- would be hilarious if Rush was taken to trial with evidence gotten through the use of the Patriot act (which he of course vehemently defends) under a REpuclican administration that he hails as nothing short as the saviors of the free world

7. Here's one thread...

There were also a couple threads in GD. Since you are a donor, why not do a search on "ACLU" in the last day or so? Actually, I was hoping more people would discuss it. It's starting to get interesting to me. Also, I asked some questions in the LBN thread that haven't yet been answered. :)
