The natives are getting restless....
Edited on Sun Jan-11-04 02:08 AM by dobak
I work at a bookstore and over the last two days, I have handled more requests than I can even possibly remember for these two books:

The Price of Loyalty: George W. Bush, the White House, and the Education of Paul ONeill by Ron Suskind

American Dynasty: Aristocracy, Fortune, and the Politics of Deceit in the House of Bush by Kevin Phillips

Folks, the American public is unhappy and they want to find out what is going on.

:-)

2. Well if the bookstore is in
Berkeley, then it's not a great barometer. Where is the store?

4. Minneapolis
Sure it leans liberal, but these books seem to be drawing a crowd that looks and seems more mainstream. They seem to be more curious about the content and buying the book to learn something new instead of reinforcing their own opinions.

In other words, the people wanting these books don't look like the type who buy books by Nader/Moore/Chomsky/Franken/etc...

11. Barnes and Noble v Borders
where I live, Barnes and Noble has the Phillips book on a special stand right when you walk into the store. They also show the other best selling liberal books near the entrance.

In contrast, Borders has the pb version of Frum's lie-a-thon The Right Man, with other Bush propaganda on a display by the cash registers.

Al Franken's book, which is still on the NYTimes best seller list, by contrast, was on the bottom shelf of the humor section.

I have less interest in buying anything from Borders after noticing this.

btw, I worked (and sort of still do) for an indie bookstore, and we sold Franken and Moore, etc. like crazy. On the other hand, I think we sold one of Annie-got-er-gums flapping Coulter's latest.

Also, HUGE amounts of Savage's book are remaindered at the big bookstores, a sure sign that they did not sell well, and/or sales were pumped up by orders which did not sell, leading me to assume he was bumped as a best-seller by order manipulation.

I think thoughtful conservatives have been looking for a voice to represent their concerns about the Bush administration.

6. Those books and Richard Clake's soon to be released tell all are BIG
We have our author heroes on the left; Conason, Moore, Franken, Ivins etc. I love their work, but I realize they miss a large audience that dismisses them as partisan.

But O'Neill and Phillips are Republicans. Clarke is a professional intelligence officer. No way these guys can be ignored. And, with Bush alienating some within his own party because of his reckless foreign and domestic policies, the time is ripe to change some minds about the BFEE.

7. From your lips to the Goddess' ears.

The 'honorable' Republicans show up at last.
"Mr. President, either resign or we will bring
up impeachment."

My prayers answered.

10. Isn't Prez Clinton's book also due...
fir release soon? I'm buying all those books.

P.S. The natives are restless for sure. The kkkristians are going crazy sending e-mails left and right in support of their christ, little man boosh. My in-laws are deep in boosh prayer. They should get off their knees and clean up those filthy houses they live in. That would be obeying the real God.

to purchase "American Dynasty" on Saturday night from my local indie bookstore. I knew it was by Kevin Phillips (his last offering was "Wealth and Democracy") but I couldn't remember the exact title. The woman at the info desk asked if I could remember any words in the title. I said I knew it had "Bush" in the title, and she immediately said, "American Dynasty"? I said, "That's the one!"

I don't expect to be surprised much by what's in the book, but I wanted to get it to see all the info in one place. Then I plan to pass it onto my mother, aged 65+, who along with her other golden-ager friends has had it with the Bush* regime.
