"No New Net Jobs" - Lou Dobbs on CNN, Fri PM show
Edited on Fri Jan-09-04 06:03 PM by pinto
"employers all but stopped hiring new employees"

calls it a "selfish recovery"...corporate profits over jobs.

39. Same here. He was snotty to Al Franken just a short time back.
I've avoided watching him much because I can't stand his Repug values and spin. But maybe the times they are a-changin'. Or, is he one of the conservatives who is upset that Bush has spent too much $?

47. I remember his smug look whenever he had a Democrat on the show.
It was a very condescending look, actually, as if he were humoring a child. If only he had listened...

3. Just what the hell happened to Lou Dobbs?
Something must have happened to a family member or someone he knows. I simply cannot conceive of any of the Corporate Pravda Whores straying off the reservation, endangering their job, their reputation, and perhaps (althought his will probably be more true 20-30 years) and quite possibly their lives, unless something happened to someone they know personally.

It would take more than the suffering of nameless, faceless Serfs to change old Lou's mind.

Somwething must have happened to someone he cares about or a family member.

Watch out Lou, the Busheviks will be coming for you if you keep it up.

"Selfish Recovery" a perfect label for the Bushevik Economic Lie.

6. You know, I always liked Dobbs
because his focus seemed to be on straight financial news without spin. But then it seemed like he changed overnight into a major Bushbot. So I stopped watching. This is more like the old Dobbs, just saying what's going on.

7. Perhaps a newly-found patriotism.
A realization that the USA is the people of the USA, not the corporations. The people of this Nation are suffering, and we need all true patriots to show their colors. You are with the people or you are against us!

... we don't really know if anything happened to him.

Maybe the drip-drip-drip finally made him reassess his stance. Maybe he had a spiritual experience. There is really no way to know.

So, I'd prefer to be happy that he's seen the light, and hope that others are emboldened by his lead.

The whores are turning against the chimp. They are actually laying it on the line about the phony economic recovery. They just said "Its not only a jobless recovery, its a selfish recovery".

The wing nuts I've seen on the tube today look shell-shocked and desperate. No WMD's, Powell admitting no Iraq link to terra, economy still sucks.

MAN-oh-MAN do we need to repeat that! It's broken-record time, folks! THIS is a good one. Because SELFISH is what these people have been from the get-go, and it's their prime motivation. They have elevated selfishness to a fine art, and they wear it like haute couture.

Let the games begin.

this will be a test of what's really going on with Dobbs

will he just kiss the ring of one of the real powers behind the curtain, or ask him some real, penetrating questions, like, say how many jobs have been OUTSOURCED since Feb, O1, as opposed to jobs, uh, CREATED??????

and did you see the string of emails/letters he showed before break?

five or six, ALL scathingly anti-pug policy

says ONE MILLION jobs are created a week!, and the world marvels at that.

Dobbs asks if the world also marvels at our 500 Billion trade deficit

Yes, I've got to admit, the Commander In Chief stepped in and confidently restored my faith in the "explosive" economic recovery that we're currently witnessing.
I don't think that there is a single poster on this Web Site, REGARDLESS of their individual political stripe, that will argue with Bush's assertion that HE NEEDS TO DO MORE. Hallelujiah, words of truth spoken by Shrub at last.

51. Welcome to DU, Marian!
He's not on my list of favorites, either, but it seems like in the past few days, he's been talking a lot more like one of the good guys. Some other folks here speculate that maybe something DID happen that really hit home for him, or someone in his family or a neighbor or someone else that he cares about. Now that it's hit home, let's see him keep it up as a bush/big business apologist. He is not doing that, lately. If it was an unfortunate circumstance for someone near him, I am sorry about that, but perhaps even so, it will contribute to a larger, greater good.

We NEED folks like him on TV every night dumping on the republi-CONS and their damned politics of short-sighted selfishness and short-term gain and penny-wise/pound foolish crap. It's been a plague on our country since Reagan started giving us national enemas with it.

I believe in redemption. And I'm hoping he's experienced something of that. Because he is NOT towing the party line, and he's putting these assholes on the hot seat and interrogating them as they deserve to be interrogated. It's about damned time!

Now, we need to email him or write him or call the switchboard and offer kudos, and say why. This calls for some positive reinforcement.

33. globalism is the result of forces larger than the u.s. president
so it's really immaterial under whose administration it started.

the key point is that under clinton, enough new jobs were created to replace those that went overseas plus provide for the new entrants into the job market.

but under bush's policies, these new jobs are not being created - that's the key point, not the fact that jobs are being lost overseas (there has been huge job losses throughout the u.s. history as jobs were either displaced overseas, or entire industries died - e.g., whaling, the family farm . . . ).

56. Steve Shepard: "Don't Focus On The Losers"
Edited on Fri Jan-09-04 09:29 PM by Bush_Eats_Beef
OK, rather than wait for the transcript, I played back the show and got this from Steve Shepard (Business Week):
"We get the benefit of immigrants to this country, their brain power, their purchasing power, we get the benefit of low cost imports. There are a lot of things that are very good in what's going on now and it's not a one-sided thing. Either way there are winners and losers. You can focus on the losers and lose site of the benefits."

Remember, folks...DON'T FOCUS ON THE LOSERS. Also, there are a lot of VERY GOOD things going on right now. Thanks Steve!!!

It's Wizard Of Oz all over again. "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain."

61. This guy typifies the view of the investment class
They believe that that they will suffer no consequence from the destruction of the working class's standard of living. It's the 21st century's version of "Let them eat cake".

It is simply irrelevant to them that the US is headed towards having 40-50% of its population living in abject poverty, because they believe that they will benefit from lower costs in their businesses.

The French aristocracy had this same delusion in the 1700s. I wonder how long before the guillotine sliced through their necks they started thinking "maybe that wasn't a good idea"

That sooner or later, if Americans don't have good paying jobs, there is going to be no one for the corporations to sell their stuff to! That's one reason why he's big on the "exporting jobs" story, kicking butt and taking names! He's not afraid to name names!
