Clear Channel Converts 3 Stations to Liberal Talk

IN BRIEF / RADIO
Clear Channel Converts 3 Stations to Liberal Talk
From Reuters

January 20, 2005

Clear Channel Communications Inc. said it converted three stations to a liberal talk format and this year could double to 44 the number of stations carrying such programming.

After offering mostly conservative-leaning talk for the last decade, Clear Channel and other broadcasters are now embracing "progressive" talk to woo a listener base that is growing increasingly fragmented because of satellite, Internet radio and devices such as iPods.

The nation's biggest radio operator said underperforming stations in Washington, Detroit and Cincinnati carrying nostalgic or sports programming switched to talkers such as Jerry Springer and Al Franken.

2. Maybe CC will allow some lib billboards (liberal Bible verses perhaps?)
Clear Channel owns most of the Billboards in my part of the country (AZ). They have all kids of ads, but they also have 'pubic service' billboards like "ONE NATION UNDER GOD" and "OUR LEADER".

Maybe they would allow some liberal slogan billboards.

At least they could allow some religious left slogans/Bible verses, such as the ones cited by Katherine Yurica in her article "The Blood Guilty Churches" which is a detailed criticism of the Bush policies using only the Bible.

Blood Guilty Churches
Why Bush’s Agenda Is Immoral and an Abomination to God

By Katherine Yurica
http://www.yuricareport.com/Religion/TheBloodGuiltyChurches.html

excerpt:

"George W. Bush, his administration, the Republican controlled congress as well as the Republican Party itself, and most of the churches in America (including evangelical, Southern Baptist, Pentecostal and Roman Catholic), stand indicted—not by men—not by this writer—but by the very Holy Scriptures the religious-right and Mr. Bush profess to uphold."

"Weighed against the Bible, the Bush actions are not only morally corrupt—they are unchristian and unbiblical to the core. In this essay, the Bush agenda is weighed on the scale of God’s standards and it is found wanting."

3. Anything that makes money
I really don't think they care about liberal vs conservative. They like anything that turns green.

They are realizing that the conventional wisdom about Liberal talk radio has been wrong.

4. They were originally planning to syndicate Randi Rhodes
until Lamebawl pitched a hissy fit and threatened to quit.

I guess they're kicking themselves now.

Jerry Springer?

5. Cash cash cash
And nothin' but cash. Just wait until you hear the homogenized, sterilized, sanitized bullplop they'll try to pass off as "liberal radio". I don't buy this shit for a minute.

8. I've been listening to the station
in Detroit all week. It's great...Al Franken at the same time as Limpballs, Ed Shultz, Stephanie Miller in the morning (SHE'S great!) and Randi Rhodes is on after 6 PM, I believe.

It's definitely real liberal radio, not watered down. I'm in my car ALOT during the day and I've been walking on air all week!
