How Iran will fight back

TEHRAN - The United States and Israel may be contemplating military operations against Iran, as per recent media reports, yet Iran is not wasting any time in preparing its own counter-operations in the event an attack materializes.

Chronologically speaking, Iran produced the 50-kilometer-range Oghab artillery rocket in 1985, and developed the 120km- and 160km-range Mushak artillery rockets in 1986-87 and 1988 respectively. Iran began assembling Scud-Bs in 1988, and North Korean technical advisers in Iran converted a missile maintenance facility for missile manufacture in 1991. It does not seem, however, that Iran has embarked on Scud production. Instead, Iran has sought to build Shahab-3 and Shahab-4, having ranges of 1,300km with a 1,600-pound warhead, and 200km with a 220-pound warhead, respectively; the Shahab-3 was test-launched in July 1998 and may soon be upgraded to more than 2,000km, thus capable of reaching the middle of Europe.

Henceforth, any US attack on Iran will likely be met first and foremost by missile counter-attacks engulfing the southern Persian Gulf states playing host to US forces, as well as any other country, e.g., Azerbaijan, Iraq or Turkey, allowing their territory or airspace to be used against Iran. The rationale for this strategy is precisely to pre-warn Iran's neighbors of the dire consequences, with potential debilitating impacts on their economies for a long time, should they become accomplices of foreign invaders of Iran.

1. Yeah, but all this won't stop the neocons from cranking out the "we're
bringing freedom to the Iranian people. They'll throw flowers at our soldiers and they will sing songs about us for a thousand years" crap all over again.

I often wonder if they'll replay the "the Iranian people will be thrilled when we liberate them from a tyrannical government" hype as well.

2. An American invasion of Iran would be a winner for Bush
...because unlike Iraq, Iran DOES HAVE WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION...and fundamentalist lunatics at the helm, too.

8. It would be a winner....
because then the BFEE could use this to "justify" our presence in the ME...after 1046 U.S. troops have been killed for a complete lie. The NASCAR dads would eat it up. And the rest of us would be subjected to another neo-con presidency.

"Iraq, Iran....hey what's the difference? They both start I-R-A, so get over it. The preznit is only human! Get over it you stoopid lib-rhuls!" They would use this "he's only human" bullshit if the general public got hold of him boffing another woman.

It would be a loser move for everyone but them.

That was my point.

6. Or the world can stop loaning money to finance Bu$h's deficits:
Edited on Fri Dec-31-04 05:06 AM by Vitruvius
the US gov't ran a $650 billion deficit in 2004, and financed it largely by borrowing from foreign central banks -- in Japan, Europe, and China. It's called "enabling".

So a first step the world can take is to cut off the money -- Bu$h is running his bloodthirsty empire on a credit card -- and the civilized world can take away that credit card any time it wants to...

10. I hope Bush understands that

Personally though, I'm expecting the nightmare. He's already proved that he doesn't care about the world's opinion- or even the world itself.

Welcome to DU again Oversea Visitor; you bring a nice touch to this place. Btw, I'm very sorry about the missing in Malaysia but glad that the damage wasn't more extensive.
