Iranian dates
If you were in the Caucasus and you happened to buy dates exported from Iran (standard packages of 1 kg from various Iranian producers), you probably noticed something special. When you open the box, you see the top layer of neatly arranged edible dates, and right under them goes some ugly pile of low-quality fruits mixed with some garbage. One could ascribe this kind of observation to ordinary grumbling of a consumer dissatisfied with the quality of the product. But a person that has an idea about modern Iran will understand that it is almost like a symbolic passport that reflects the essence of the Iranian state with its Islamic facade and its specific internal content.

Lately, after joining the so-called «axis of evil», the interest towards Iran has been increased, although you can't say that Iran is much different from any other similar regimes in Asia or in the Middle East. Iran is called an Islamic State, even though it is far from being real. If real enemies of Islam had a slightest guess what kind of a role Iran is playing in pushing people away from Islam, they would have been cherishing and preserving that regime, while presenting it as the face of the Islamic World.

Muslims of the Caucasus encountered the hypocrisy of Iranian policies for the first time back during the Armenian-Azeri war. You had to try real hard to push Azerbaijani people off and provoke enmity to come out them, after having long-standing historical and religious ties with Iran and after relying on its support. In order to demonstrate loyalty towards Russia's ally – Armenia, the regime of favoring Armenia and Armenian diaspora in Iran was introduced while bypassing the Islamic legislation proclaimed by Iran. All of it goes on among the discrimination of millions of Azeris living in Iran.

While supporting Russia's policies in Chechnya, Iranian politicians are saying that they are contributing to consolidating Russia's positions in order not to let the US spread its influence across the Caucasus. When these Koran-quoting amateurs are asked whether such a position corresponds with Islam, they have nothing to refer to and with their shifty eyes they start their hazy speeches on geopolitics and political expediency.

1. I can't say I've tried Iranian dates ...
I did buy some Iraqi dates from a peace group, which (before the war) was trying to help Iraq develop agricultural, as opposed to oil, markets.

They were stuck together and full of pits. Maybe it was meant to be an allegory!
