Why Americans don't vote for democrats
Edited on Fri Nov-05-04 05:47 PM by dmordue
A series of excellent thought provoking articles on the direction and mandates of the democratic party. http://www.slate.com/id/2109188/

I stand by the post. Read the articles. They are pro-democrat. They are also pro-thought. Where is the liberal attitude we preach?

2. Beginning with Bill Clinton in 1992,
The majority of America has voted for Democrats in the presidential elections. Fuck off, Asshole. Your discouragement campaign will not work here.

Read the articles. They are encouraging in the power of the democrats with good ideas. I worked my butt off for Kerry this election. I will do so again for other good candidates. You look pretty new. Sit back and read the posts. You may learn something.

5. Dr M
Kerry won this election. And, I suspect we probably took back the Senate, also. The machines were tampered with. As I said before, your disencouragement campaign will not work here. I may be new here, but it has nothing to do with my ability to reason.

This election was stolen.

6. LOL
You won't even read the articles the guy linked too, but you're the one with the "ability to reason."

You're free to cling to the desperate hope that what is done can be undone, but don't get pissy with people who are trying to understand what happened from another perspective.

7. After all the evidence
shown within these last days about election fraud, you really believe that this election was legitimate?

I suspect your motives.

8. Dude...let's get real
If I were some sort of Republican operative, why would I be in here wasting my time arguing with you? To what end?

Paranoia will destroy ya. And regardless of what you think, try to be more civil. The guy was just linking to some Slate articles. Is Slate in on the conspiracy too?

9. I am not a dude, Dude
I am an African American woman. And now, an angry one. My ancestral history does not give me the luxury to turn a blind eye to voter fraud. Maybe your article at Slate is valid; however, no amount of fine-tuning our "positives" as a party will matter if our vote is distorted or stolen every time the polls open. Surely you can understand that concept.

12. I can understand that concept.
See? Not so hard to be agreeable with people you disagree with, is it?

I might quit DU after a reception like that. Thanks for giving me hope that liberals really are liberal in their willingness to listen.

13. Don't quit.
People are angry and frustrated right now. I know I am. Don't take it personally. We'll all be more rational later.

And she's right, if they are just going to steal elections, there's no point in us trying to figure out what we're doing wrong. I'm curious if these voter fraud allegations will amount to anything. Some suspicious behavior and apparent computer gliches, but we will need more than that.

The 2nd article, by William Saletan, is something all Democrats -- especially the DNC -- need to read:

excerpt:
If you think this kind of moral talk is anathema, you're the sort of person Karl Rove wants to be running the Democratic Party. Get out, or get a new attitude. Nearly 60 million people came out to vote for George W. Bush yesterday because they think that he represents their values and that you don't. Prove them wrong and you'll be the majority party again.

How? Start by changing the way you talk about pocketbook issues. Remember Bill Clinton's commitment to help people who "work hard and play by the rules"? Your positions on taxes and labor would be assets instead of liabilities if you explained them in moral terms. The minimum wage rewards work. Repealing the estate tax helps rich people get richer without risk or effort. Lax corporate oversight allows big businesses to evade taxes, deceive small investors, and raid pension funds.

Yes, Republicans will accuse you of waging a class war. I can see you cringing already. Get off your knees and fight. It is a war, but it isn't a class war. It's a culture war, and if you talk about it that way, you'll win it.

Some of you are dismayed by the emergence of a huge voting bloc of churchgoers. Stop viewing this as a threat, and start viewing it as an opportunity. Socially conservative blue-collar workers don't believe in the free market. They believe in the work ethic. Bush wins their votes by equating the free market with the work ethic. Show them where the free market betrays the work ethic, and they'll vote for the party of the work ethic—you—against the party of the free market.

please read the entire article:

14. i wonder; maybe ralph nader was right....
maybe kerry wasn't ever going to win any election the repukes are basically staging, with a 'mandate' for goofybush in mind, just like Nader insisted ...maybe ralph's claim that the system is the problem......is too right(?) even with a landslide for kerry predicted, geeb still won, and that ian't normal circumstances....there are millions of busheviks, but no way are there 59 million of them....the system is corrupt, and must poison the well it drinks of, i guess....

15. Both are shit
The first because it ignores the fact that Bush's "freedom is on the march" only sold because no reporter had the guts to call it imperialism. And one candidate, not even John Kerry, can do that all by himself.

The second because that's the campaign we ran and if the writer was too stupid to see it at the time, he'll never see it in the future.

Our media is pretty damned dumb too.
