Andy Card on Bush*s Bulge
(snip)

The latest clarification, explanation or evasion -- depending on your perspective on all this --- comes from White House Chief of Staff Andy Card. We caught up with him in spin alley here, and we asked him whether Bush was wearing a wire at the last debate.

"If he was, I didn't know about it," Card said. "I have no reason to believe he was wearing a listening device at all." So what was that tell-tale lump under Bush's suit coat? "I don't even know what you're talking about. Maybe people didn't have very good eyesight." Was the president wearing a bullet-proof vest? "No, he was not, not to my knowledge." Some are speculating that he was wearing some kind of medical device, like a portable IV machine. How about that? "Not to my knowledge."

Card, the pro that he is, quickly spun the conversation to Bush-Cheney talking points. The president is "a regular guy," he said. "Maybe his suit had a little lump in it or something. I'll tell you, he was dressed for the opportunity to talk to the American people, and I am not aware of anything that was extra-ordinary in what he was wearing."

2. "I have no reason to believe he was wearing a listening device at all."
What an odd way of phrasing it. One must ask, what would constitute a reason to believe.

3. W.H. refused to provide an on-the-record comment
From http://www.startribune.com/stories/484/5023828.html

"There was nothing under his suit jacket," said Nicolle Devenish, the Bush campaign's communications director -- not a wire, not a transmitter, not a garage door opener.

They said the bulge was definitely not a receiver. "It was most likely a rumpling of that portion of his suit jacket, or a wrinkle in the fabric," Devenish said.

And Bush was not wearing a protective vest, sources said. Devenish could not explain why the "rumpling" was in a rectangular shape.

The White House refused to provide an on-the-record comment, saying that it wouldn't dignify a baseless issue.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Terence McAuliffe said, "If he had an earpiece and those were his answers, they ought to fire every person in the back room."

4. I saw the photo and it looked like suspenders to me
I wear suits quite frequently and always where "straps" (suspenders). They can make a suit look funny from the back at certain angles. In any case, if he had a listening device the first time, and not the second time, give it back to him for the third time.

5. he wore it last night, too
it was just better hidden but you could still see the wire.

I find their very tepid denial of this interesting.

6. I tried to tell and couldn't!
I would believe it more last night on 2nd debate. They worked like dogs to whip him into shape, but anything was an improvement cause 1st one he sucked bad!
