Some of Kerry's biggest fans are in the press
Jeff Jacoby makes me so angry somtimes!!!!! :grr: :grr: Who does he think he's kidding? :eyes:

http://www.boston.com/news/globe/editorial_opinion/oped/articles/2004/08/24/some_of_kerrys_biggest_fans_are_in_the_press

With the exception of the Fox News Channel, the liberal tilt of the mainstream media - the major newspapers, the networks, National Public Radio, the news magazines - has long been a fact of American life. No one observing the coverage of this year's presidential campaign with both eyes open can have much doubt that the media establishment is pulling heavily for the Democratic ticket.

That explains why, for example, the intense media interest in George W. Bush's National Guard records last February wasn't matched by an equally intense interest in John Kerry's Navy history in May, when the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth first went public with their criticisms. Far from leaping on the charges that Kerry's Vietnam heroism had been greatly exaggerated, the mainstream media's initial reaction was to largely ignore them. And while the press saw no reason to question the credibility of Bush's accusers or to demand that Kerry repudiate them, their attitude toward the Swift Boat vets has been much more hostile.

None of this should come as a surprise. The nation's newsrooms are Democratic strongholds, and that cannot help but affect their coverage of the news. Evan Thomas, the assistant managing editor of Newsweek, put it plainly last month.

-snip-

Don't expect next week's Republican convention in New York to inspire similarly starry-eyed adulation. As Newsweek's editor concedes, the media want Kerry to win. To be sure, most journalists are professionals who take seriously their obligation to be accurate and fair. But what is true for most people is true for journalists, too: When you want something badly enough, it shows.

6. it's just a cog in the lie machine
they don't believe ANY of their own bullshit.

If they did, we wouldn't have legal abortion or illegal immigrants.

But both are needed and desired by the rich.

8. I think they are so isolated and indolent that they believe the lies

After all, simply EVERYONE at the Cocktail Party assumes it's true, so it must be.

What's funny is, as long as there is an IOTA of honest reporting that questions the Imperials, an IOTA, the media will be "liberal".

Only after it approaches Nazi/Soviet 100% adulation will the "Liberal Media" BIG LIE cease.

(maybe not even THEN...you know how Totalitarians are)

2. Meh usual stuff from them, and it works...
Bush actually did dodge the war, and its apparent he ditched the national guard.

Whereas the Swift Boat Vets are lying and its obvious to anyone that takes a look at it.

In one instance Bush is being attacked for something he didn't do but won't admit he didn't do, and Kerry is being attacked for something he did do but lie and said he didn't do.

3. Wow - what is this guy smoking?
"The media want Kerry to win"? They DO? That's news to me. From where I sit (and watch/listen/read/browse) it doesn't look like that AT ALL. Occasionally you'll have some flash of clarity from somebody - which tells me some of them aren't sure who'll win in November, so they're wondering if maybe it's time to start hedging their bets. They don't want to piss off the bushies, should they steal it again, and lose their nice seats in the White House Press Room, or heaven forbid, their ACCESS - and maybe also that cutesy nickname he stuck on 'em when he was just getting started. But if they coddle the bushies too much and Kerry wins, they know that means they're up a creek - because they probably fear that the Kerry people will remember, and maybe will be as vindictive as they already know the bush gang is. I see a FEW fence-sitters. Chris Matthews comes to mind. But I don't see any of them canceling their lifetime memberships in the "Blue Dresses for bush" Club.

4. obviously he didn't watch the DNC
or else he would have noticed this "press" bashing everything Dem with every breath they took.

It was as if you were watching the Olympics and the announcers would say "that Michael Phelps guy -- he's just lucky -- obviously he must be on some kind of enhancing drugs. Or maybe he's got some kind of genetic mutation that makes him such a good swimmer. And by the way I hear his Mom is a real loon. Most of his teammates don't like him, I've heard".

Man, it was just nasty.

WHAT planet is this guy living on?

Oh, right, he's just perpetuating the lie about the "liberal media".

:eyes:

Keep lying, boys! Whatever you do, keeeeeep lying!

5. Telling quote:
`When asked who would be a better president, the journalists from outside the Beltway picked Mr. Kerry 3 to 1, and the ones from Washington favored him 12 to 1."

In other words, the ones most in the know about all the scandals see Bush as a threat to democracy.

9. 'The liberal media'
It may have actually been true, at some point in our history. Now the right wing has perpetuated the myth to where it is blindly accepted as fact.
Start with talk radio; a liberal bias there? Please.
TV news: As witnessed over the weekend, the networks were spoon-fed story angles from the Swift Boat Sludge and the Shrub campaign and regurgitated it without regard to contrary facts.
Newspapers: Most of them are owned by very conservative corporations and make their endorsements along those veins.
The Internet: To be determined, but it's tough to make a case that there is a liberal bias there.
This is just one more example of the right wing strategy: Say something often enough and loudly enough and it will be accepted as fact, regardless of reality.
