Schwarzenegger, Bush snub California Republicans
Los Angeles Daily News

By Rick Orlov
Staff Writer

It's not easy being a member of the California Republican Party these days. Not only do they not get any respect nationally -- the most recent polls show Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry carrying the state by 12 points over President George W. Bush -- but they can't even get the governor's attention.

Before meeting in San Diego this past weekend for their semiannual session, they received word from Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger that he would be too busy to attend the gathering. "We're already spending a few days this month at the Republican convention that's in New York," Schwarzenegger spokesman Rob Stutzman told reporters. "There's only so much time we can dedicate. Governors don't go to every convention."

No, only the ones in their state.

President Bush also is a no-show, perhaps conceding the state -- which he also lost to Vice President Al Gore four years ago -- to concentrate on other states. Bob Mulholland, the state Democratic Party political director, couldn't let the moment pass.

"Bush, by my count, has stiffed the California Republican Party 12 times," Mulholland said. "Starting in 1999, the California Republicans have invited Bush to their state convention twice a year. Each time, a no-show."

1. I wonder how the fucking republicans in Cali feel
about this? And Kerry only beating bush by 12 points in California?

I would think it would be at least 20 points!

7. Deflate the Cal Republicans even more: Make them stay at home
In California, and any other state, a Republican that feels dissed by Shrub or the GOP and stays at home is a big win. Even if the state is Blue, it depresses the popular vote total for Bush, making any dirty tricks harder, and any after the vote skulduggery more exposed. In the event of an undisputed Electoral College win by Kerry, the bigger the popular vote margin, the bigger the mandate. Both points apply even if the state is Red or Pink or Aqua or Purple!

Furthermore, any Repug stay-at-home automatically reduces the chances of Republican Senatorial, House, or State wins. Additionally, right wingnut initiatives wither and progressive initiatives flourish.

4. Maria. How else?
They probably looked at her as a balancing factor (she is a Dem, after all) and held their noses while casting their ballots.

5. Same reason Reagan was selected....
they, the people who voted for him, are Star Struck. It must be the LA wanna-bees, I guess, who knows. I almost cried when he won.

11. Funny, as I just finished writing this, the local news gave...
Arnold's approval rating, at 65%. I don't get it. Something like Repugs=90% approval, Democrats=45%.

I feel sick.

9. Did anyone really think Gropenfuhrer wouldn't behave like the rest
of the Imperial Toadies.

These 1780s style French aristocrats (or Prussian, in the case of Gropenfuhrer) simply don't like Little People very much.
