1. A disappointing rant

He must really be phased, because this is not the Bob Herbert I'm used to reading.

Let's see... he says people in charge are incompetent and they're ignoring studies. Could you be a little more insightful as to the cause? Corporate influence on politics, privatization, etc?

Notice how he says our public infrastructure (police, fire, etc.) are not prepared. But it was private infrastructure that failed (power lines and phone networks). So because he's confused, we have this NTY columnist braying for MORE police statism!
