Paterno Case Reveals Our Own Failure to Deal with Sex Abuse
Joe Paterno is out as head coach of the Penn State football team over accusations that an assistant coach fondled young boys. Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain faces accusations from a fourth woman who say she approached her inappropriately. These cases cast a spotlight on how we deal with issues of sex abuse in this country, and how we have yet to figure out a fair and consistent approach to dealing with some very important issues.

1. Unrec. No, it's about Penn State's criminal coverup of sexual abuse.
It wasn't a failure, it was coverup.

And it isn't about sexual activity between consenting adults, it's about sexual abuse of children.

And Cain's case is about sexual harassment and sexual assault. Again, not about activity between consenting adults.

Equating all kinds of sexual misbehavior as equivalent, and claiming that it is everyone's fault, are prime ways for conservatives to try to frame sexual crimes out of the public's view.

3. The "Paterno case"?
What does the Sandusky pedophilia coverup at PSU have to do with Herman Cain's sexual harassment issues?

4. No, once again it is a case of putting money and fame
as more important than law, morality or children. I can halfway see sexual harassment of women because that is a natural urge and men need to learn a lot before they can see the underlying problem with it. But for several grown men, some of them must have been fathers to cover up and ignore a child being used in that way! And to do it because they did not want to rock the money boat, is downright evil.

5. Yesterday on KDKA radio
the 2 hosts (Larry Richards & John Shumway) were taking calls from listeners about Joe Paterno and the sex scandal at PSU. A women actually called and said some of the blame has to be with the children. Unbelievable. Both hosts came down on the women. Larry Richards said that was the most disturbing call he's ever had in his career.

This is not isolated thinking. I remember back in the 90's on the Geraldo Rivera Talk Show (I know) he did a 2 part show on the sex scandal going on in the Catholic Church. He was one of the first to do it. When he went into the audience to get comments, many people blamed the children and not the priests. I remember Geraldo couldn't believe what he was hearing. I still have that show on video tape.

7. Sorry....
...raping little boys while being protected by a major institution is A FAR FUCKING CRY from some asshole getting lascivious with someone at a conference.

Is Cain an asshole - most likely. Is he on the same level as a child rapist - NOT EVEN CLOSE.

Seriously - keep the comparisons at least in the same Universe.
