The challenger to Cantor if he wins the Democratic primary will be Lt. Colonel David Hunsicker...
" Like the Koch Brothers, Cantor is an ironic spokesman for an alleged “every man” Tea Party movement. He was born to a highly influential family in Richmond, Va. His father, Eddie Cantor, owned a real estate firm and was the Virginia State treasurer for Ronald Reagan’s 1980 presidential campaign. Eric Cantor attended private schools and interned for a Republican Congressman in his freshman year in college. His own personal wealth is estimated at $7 million. More importantly, his big money corporate connections will almost certainly assure him of a very affluent post-political career."
"The backers of the Tea Party movement have three main pillars to their big money agenda, zero corporate taxes, zero regulations and cheap labor, claiming that such business friendly policies will attract good jobs. Despite plenty of evidence to the contrary, that’s their story and they’re sticking to it."
"But certainly the goal of it is jobs. And we have a crisis in this country where we don’t have enough demand for the supply. The computer has replaced just about so many jobs, and we brought the women in the work force way back during World War II. And that’s not going to change ever. So maybe we need to shorten the work week. Maybe we ought to come up with a two-tier working system. I’m thinking about the jobs area, but that’s number one. I hope the President is successful in his transportation bill. Maybe we can have a new CCC/WPA infrastructure rebuilding. I’m for all these things. I believe in health care. Health care in America, I think is a human right. I believe in Medicare for all. I think that’s very important. There’s a new bill in there called HR2248, and this would allow the Department of Health and Human Services to negotiate drug prices with the pharmaceutical companies. This bill’s sponsor is John Conyers from Michigan. Actually, I spoke to his committee not too long ago, and I was quite pleased with what they were doing. As far as Social Security goes, you know, if we removed the hundred and six thousand dollar cap, which I would support, I think we (wouldn’t) have to worry about Social Security in the future.”
"So we have to create 300,000 new jobs a month. So we don’t need an austerity program. We need a jobs program, and we need to put people back to work. And that’s why I favor the CCC approach of, you know, the Works Projects Administration, the WPA. Whatever it takes. And if it takes one man with one rake out next to the highway raking up leaves or cleaning the graffiti off of a sign, whatever it takes, we have to pay them and we have to pay them a decent wage so they can support their family. And so that’s the issue that we’re facing not only today but in the future. We cannot let our country go into a — you know, it’s a $7.50 an hour minimum wage, where we used to be making $30 an hour. We have to come up with a solution to that problem…we need to spend to get people working again. ”
