The solution in Afghanistan: Get out
By James P. McGovern and Walter B. Jones
Washington Post

No one, it seems, wants to talk about the war in Afghanistan. This week the House debated a budget bill that is touted as reflecting new fiscal restraint, yet borrows tens of billions more for the war. In an hour-long State of the Union address last month, President Obama devoted less than one minute to the conflict. Given the investment and sacrifices our country has made for nearly 10 years, the phones in our offices should be ringing off the hook with calls from those who are tired of being told that the United States doesn't have enough money to extend unemployment benefits or invest in new jobs.

2. Afghanistan
It is not for nothing the country has long been known as the graveyard of empires.

We should have been out of there long ago. We shouldn't even have sent soldiers there in the first place.

3. As an infantryman said to a reporter in Vietnam when he was asked, "how would you get out." The
troop replied, "by plane and ship, the same way we got here." It really is that simple. Something we should have learned from Vietnam is the only way to "win" a war is the use of nuclear weapons and completely destroy the country. As someone said upthread Afghanistan is known throughout history as the "graveyard of empires."
