The strange, sad death of the American way
<snip>
Bush, Blair and Howard would dearly love to move on, to shelter in that obedient, obeisant world and their shallow argument that the global community must deal with the reality on the ground in Iraq; hoping, too, that we'll just slip-slide with them, over and around their recklessness in dragging Iraq into the War on Terror.

But legitimacy is truth and questions of legitimacy will keep drawing us back to the propriety of their decision-making on the road to Baghdad - the lies, the half-truths, all the obsfucation. This is not just a history lesson; or a debating point for Americans and Australians as they luxuriate in their democratic right to vote on the performance of their leaders in the coming months.

In less than two weeks the US-led occupation of Iraq gives way to the saddest little "sovereign" government the world has seen in a while.

Its legitimacy is in doubt and, therefore its viability, as much because of the false-pretence by Washington, London and Canberra to justify war as by Iraqi suspicion of the democratic fundamentals of interim government by appointment, by the continued occupation of their country and by a firm foreign grip on their treasury purse-strings.

1. The American Way Is Not Dead Yet.
Our death has been greatly exaggerated. Those in charge think that they have the upper hand; therefore, do not see an anger that is seething just below the surface. Slowing roiling against them, an anger so deep that it strains at the reins that keeps it in check. Hatred it is called; but, hatred it is not for hatred is unfocused and uncontrolled. Like a focused animal of prey, it stalks the enemies of the American way. A wrath waiting silently in the dark corners for the moment of truth when it will be unleashed to rend the abusers of America to tattered shreds. There was a hint not so long ago of what awaits; but, the warnings go unheeded. Little do they know of the anger that lurks below.

3. I think you may be right, but could you elaborate on this . . .
"There was a hint not so long ago of what awaits; but, the warnings go unheeded." . . .

just curious . . . to what, specifically, are you referring . . . if it's something really obvious that I'm missing, it may be time to adjust the meds . . . :shrug:

6. When the anger surfaced.
Howard Dean tapped into the anger that flows just below and exposing it for all to see; but, he was the wrong man to carry the banner. The anger caught all the pundits by surprise and even then they misidentified its meaning. Now, these same pundits think it has quelled and argue that anger alone cannot change things when the reality is that only anger can change from that which is to that which is to be. The anger still sits there ready to be tapped.

7. good point . . . let's just hope that BushCo isn't successful in . . .
re-directing that anger to entities other than themselves . . . which is pretty much what their whole administration has been about, at least since 9/11 . . .

8. In that case.
Then, it is up to us to make sure they cannot redirect that anger elsewhere. The one advantage of anger over rage and hate is that it can be focused. This is especially true when the anger results from great wrongs rather than petty wrongs. The recognition that Dean was the wrong banner carrier for the cause demonstrates that the anger does not blind; but, gives strength and focus to prevail. The key is to stay focused while not letting lies and deceptions go uncorrected. The oath taken when entering the military service of this nation is to protect the Constitution from all enemies; both foreign and domestic. There are many wars being fought today including the one against Bush. The other wars cannot be won until the war against Bush has been completed for it is only after the removal of Bush that this nation can once again regain it moral authority in the world and through that moral authority win the others. The only way to win the war against Bush with meaning is to remain within the principles that made this nation greater than all the others. This will demonstrate to all our strength and faith in the principles we stand for. Bush will most likely try once again to step outside of those bounds and part of the battle is to force him to stay within them. We are strong enough and large enough to do this. It is truly time to take our country back.
