CNN Links Arms with Billionaire's Project to Fleece Social Security

Billionaire Pete Peterson's anti-Social Security, anti-Medicare anti-public investment deficit propaganda film "I.O.U.S.A" is scheduled for broadcast on CNN.

April 10, 2010 | Advertisement Unless we successfully pressure CNN to change course, it will air Pete Peterson's anti-Social Security, anti-Medicare anti-public investment deficit propaganda film "I.O.U.S.A" along with additional propaganda "commentary" from people who work for the Peterson Foundation on Saturday.

CNN did this last year, and it was a completely one-sided presentation, when in fact, there is an actual debate going about how serious a problem is the national debt, and whether Social Security and Medicare really need to be gutted to reduce the debt.

Now, maybe CNN was actually clueless last year, and was not aware that many of the nation's most prominent economists do not traffic in deficit hysteria, insist that Social Security is fundamentally sound, and broader health care reform (which just passed) is the way to protect Medicare.

But over the course of the past year, this debate has been raging.

Even the President debt commission, while too slanted towards the deficit hysterics for our tastes, does include people with different points of view, recognizing that there debates to be had. Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) and SEIU President Andy Stern have a much different view about the debt than Former Sen. Alan Simpson (R-Wyo.) and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.).

And just today, in the New York Times, the nation's most famous economist, Nobel laureate Paul Krugman wars us not to follow the deficit hysterics into the economic abyss:

1. CNN is jumping the shark. Eric Erickson, now this.
Pete Peterson is an utter fraud in this to line his own pockets.

2. Social Security is gong to be the next
Health Care debacle. Bush failed to get the job done, it's now going to be up to Democrats. They want to privatize SS in the worst way. And unless there is huge opposition to it, this administration is the best chance they have.

The CATO Institute wrote this report ten years ago and it's been a wet dream of Wall St. to get their hands on those funds. So far, they have not succeeded. But I am waiting for the onslaught of propaganda and the lobbyists to descend on Congress once again. I think they will wait until after the November election though.

Privatizing Social Security: The $10 Trillion Opportunity

If Bush had succeeded, imagine what would have happened to all those mandated private savings accounts invested in the market? It was fortunate that he had lost enough of his political capital by then that he wasn't able to accomplish it.

But I feel certain that it is on the agenda of this administration ....

The sales pitch will intense ....

3. Go Obama! Let's Reform! Let's Reform!
What policies the lying pieces of shit who had the mis-fortune to have white skin could never pull off, this man can now do quite easily.

He has the charisma, the soft spokeness. The articulation. The Nobel prize.

Go Obama Go Obama. I didn't need my Social Security Funds anyway.

Just like I didn't need Real Health Care.

Go Obama! Go Obama! La La La La La!
