Obama's legacy will be defined by his Nobel Speech.

I'm afraid President Obama will be remembered most by what he said in Norway, and what he does in Afghanistan. Not only is he escalating the war in Afghanistan/Pakistan, he is declaring that it's a just war while simultaneously accepting the world's greatest peace prize. His use of duck talk and doublespeak was brilliant. Of course, conservatives have applauded this. You would have to check the history books to look for a case where they were so much on the side of a Democratic President on an issue. Conservatives love that Obama was able to subvert the Nobel Committee's Prize to advance their interests.

Afghanistan is not a just war. We did not move into there as a "last resort." We were not attacked by the country, we were attacked by some criminals trained on some land in the country. It makes as much sense for us to send an army into Afghanistan as it would have made to attack and topple the government in Montana if there is ever some Neo-Nazi camp there that trains terrorists.

In doing this, however, Obama has now defined his reputation in the world by what happens in Afghanistan. They are going to take the "theory" Obama gave the world in his speech and see how the "experiment" in Afghanistan works out. I am skeptical that this will work out in Obama's favor. He's sending 30,000 more troops into a country that wants to shoot at them even more. Soldiers do not react well to that; in fact, nobody does. With our corporations there looking for profits, there is no way the world is going to view this as a just war, though they might give Obama the benefit of the doubt for now. I'm afraid his fate is sealed.

3. Obama's speach was a statement of imperial policy...
As long as the U.S. maintains it's empire, no president will ever do anything to jeopardize the empire. History will, eventually, divest the U.S. of empire.

Ultimatly, there is more at stake than Afghanistan, more policies than war. Our government is elected by a majority of the people who vote. I can not vote for a Republican because their policies are far more draconian than anything Democrats will do, and some of the things Democrats do will be good. I will vote for the best individual to run for the office that actually has a chance of winning. Except for a few local elections, that leaves my choice as Democrat or Republican. Obama will have my vote unless someone beats him in a primary, which will happen when Kosher Pigs fly.
