New (vid) game lets players massacre civilians
more: http://rawstory.com/2009/10/game-lets-players-massacre-civilians/

A new video game allows players to pose as Russian ultranationalist terrorists and massacre civilians with assault weapons in an airport.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is set for release Nov. 10, in time for the American holiday shopping season. Its predecessor sold 14 million copies and earned myriad "game of the year" awards.

10. The sequence in question..
Is pretty much an interactive cutscene from the protagonists' viewpoint meant to Underscore How Evil These Guys Are; the rest of the game is spent fighting them.

But all the media will say, of course, is that MW2 is all about playing the terrorists and nothing else, because they haven't had a good video game moral panic since GTA4 came out and need to lie about something new now.

(I'm not going to touch MW2 myself, but that's more because they killed the multiplayer aspect in an especially annoying way, and not because of this.)

16. Amen to the last part - and the first ones as well for that matter.
They lost a 100% assured customer here as well on the multiplayer fiasco.

19. Hopping onto ModWar1 servers is hilarious these days
Every other one has an automated server message to the effect of "it's not too late to cancel your pre-order!" or "death to Bowling!" or something else along those lines. On the ones that don't, I just have to say "So! MW2?" and the place goes up in flames.

Fans were not made there, methinks.

3. I know several games you can do that. Some many years old.

In fact yesterday I ground France under my boot and decimated the entire population of several cities so that they would succumb to my tyranny.

Then I read my daughter "Good Night Moon" and went to bed.

I have yet to see anyone make the jump from fantasy to reality from such games...

Unless you count the military and their drone thang...

4. Sounds like fun.
In Fallout 3, you can massacre civilians, loot them, and then eat their flesh. So awesome.

5. Wow if there'd be a version with AIG and health insurance execs taking the place of the civilians
Edited on Thu Oct-29-09 01:44 PM by Wapsie B
I would be so there!

edit: For the next level it'd have to be Goldman Sachs management.

6. Why shouldn't gamers get to do what the US military does? Neither faces any risk in committing
these "murders" so there is no harm to anyone (who counts).

It's just a game. And we must train our young people for their future military careers.

7. So?
Games like this have been out for years.

Remember the "outrage" over Grand Theft Auto? Where you run people down and kill hookers?

I find people's outrage over movies, books and video games to be laughable.

8. Violent video games cause real world violence!
Just like rock music causes people to worship satan, dancing causes promiscuity, not tucking shaving and keeping your head cut short lets the commies take over and whatever other social hysteria I haven't mentioned.

Just because none of those predictions have come to pass doesn't mean anything.
