Most Popular Part of Health Reform: Public Option » 61% to 34% : Quinnipiac University poll

Here’s a problem for the GOP, high-lighted in the latest Quinnipiac University poll

The party’s attacks on health care reform, led by charges of a government takeover, seem to have pounded down American opinion not just on the President’s health reform efforts, but on their own image. And more, one thing that remains broadly popular: a government-run health insurance option.

Doh!

Here are the numbers. President Obama remains reasonably popular with a 50% job approval rating, even though only 40% of folks like his health care reform push, compared to 47% who do not.

What they do like is the public option, by a very healthy 61% to 34% margin.

1. And I'll bet a lot of those who like the public option

haven't read any of the bills and have an idea that it will be more like Medicare for All than the scam that's being foisted on us.

It would be interesting if they could also be asked "How do you think the public "option" will work?" Many would be shocked to find out they won't have the option of choosing it.

2. House bills intended to have an exchange with a public option. I doubt if they are in
statutory language yet though (not until two House's reconcile differences is that going to be done). Kennedy bill in Senate is a public option.

Now if Corporate Lobbyist party succeeds in killing public option then in a few years when health care goes off a cliff (employers dropping group coverage because they can't afford it) then only option people will have is to buy individual insurance (not group) coverage. Few will be able to afford it. Number of uninsured will go to 40% to 50% (in maybe 10 years). Then the people will DEMAND action quickly. Then, people will probably be added to medicare. This will be much better as we won't be paying insurance company's G&A and Profit. Better than any of these bills which call for us to subsidize for profit insurance companies... But this is what Obama thought was necessary to get something passed.
