Another View: Jeb Bradley should look at Cheney's defense record
Edited on Sat May-01-04 05:59 AM by NewHampshireDem
... before his next attack

On behalf of the Bush-Cheney campaign, Congressman Jeb Bradley, who never served in the military and who has served in Congress only 18 months, this past week launched a misleading attack on the stellar national defense record of Sen. John Kerry.

As a veteran, I am disgusted that President Bush, Vice President Cheney and Rep. Bradley are trying to tear down John Kerry, a decorated war hero, with their misleading ad campaign and attacks. Sen. Kerry served his country bravely in Vietnam; where were they?

<snip>

Rep. Bradley said, "Anyone who has voted against the F-18 on numerous occasions is not a stalwart supporter in the defense of our country." Well what then, does Mr. Bradley think of Vice President Dick Cheney?

When he served as Secretary of Defensey, Cheney decided to make major cuts in the F-18 program. Does Bradley think Cheney is not a "stalwart supporter in the defense of our country?"

<snip>

Does Congressman Bradley know that Vice President Cheney once bragged to Congress about cutting military spending by more than $300 billion? And that Cheney complained that Democrats were stopping him from cutting defense spending even more?

<snip>

Let's remember that it was President Bush and Vice President Cheney who sent our men and women in uniform to Iraq without basic equipment like body armor. It was the Bush-Cheney administration that proposed cutting the pay of men and women serving in combat zones. It is the Bush-Cheney administration that is cutting the number of armored vehicles in Iraq, even as our soldiers continue to come under fire and die.

1. This is a great article.
You should post it in GD or GD2004 so more people can see it and use the info in it.

2. Bush I & Cheney cut personnel levels by 550,000
This was the 5 year plan started in FY91 that gutted the armed forces, particularly the Army.
