Russia, Iran To Sign 10-Year Nuclear Fuel Supply Contract
18:16 | 25/ 02/ 2009

BUSHEHR (Iran), February 25 (RIA Novosti) - Russia and Iran are planning to sign a nuclear fuel supply contract for a term of at least 10 years, the head of Russia's nuclear power corporation said on Wednesday.

Sergei Kiriyenko said earlier in the day that Russia had completed the construction of Iran's first nuclear power plant at Bushehr and would soon launch a trial run.

He did not say when the plant would go into operation, commenting that this would depend on the outcome of the testing.

"We're unable at this stage to set an exact date for the launch; we have an agreed-on testing and inspection schedule," he said. "The actual date will depend on how these tests proceed."

The plant in south Iran, which Russia undertook to finish as part of a 1998 contract, was originally scheduled to go on line at the end of 2006, but the date has been pushed back several times.

1. Russia could prevent a war if they put Iran under their nuclear umbrella
or even stationed some nukes there with Russian troops controlling them to act as a deterrent.

2. I have no problem with this
Every nation has the right to pursue nuclear power. As long as inspections are allowed and continued, it will be easy to prevent nuclear weapons from being produced (nuclear weapons require much higher grade uranium; the uranium has to be spun in centrifuges for much longer, and the % content of the material is easy to observe).
