Bush Supporters Losing Enthusiasm

Bush Supporters Losing Enthusiasm
by Bob Patterson | June 6, 2008

Bush supporters, who were reliable sources for spirited, vehement rebuttals to any snide remark about the President's level of intelligence or competency, seemed this week to be guilty of dereliction of duty as far as lavishing praise on the commander-in-chief is concerned.

Bill O'Reilly had always been a dependable resource for annoying umbrage in response to any disparaging remarks about George W. Bush's foreign policy, but lately his stock reply that any criticism of Bush originates from a "left wing lunatic" is, itself, sounding remarkably similar to Captain Queeg's insistence that there was another key used to get access to the strawberries.

On Friday, June 6, 2008, Sean Hannity, in his opening remarks, noted that he has been deluged with e-mails from dispirited conservatives and he could only respond with an anemic phrase ("Let not your heart be troubled") that sounded like the advice a pitching coach would give to a guy on the mound who was being hammered when there was no one left in the bull pen: "stay in there and pitch!"

Hannity told his audience that during a President Obama term in office, he would continue to serve up heaping portions of the conservative philosophy. It was as if the band master on the Titanic announced that there would be time to do a few requests before the musicians played "Nearer and nearer, my God, to Thee."

On Tuesday, Senator McCain's oratory performance was pathetic and raised the possibility that the Republicans are replacing the old "it takes a thief" philosophy with the idea that only an imbecile can replace an idiot. Senator McCain also resembles Bush and his relentless warrior attitude and so the thought that if Bush doesn't attack Iran, then McCain will, could be used as an advertising slogan by the Republicans, this Fall.

1. How's Hannity's book with "The Death of Liberalism" in the title working out for him?

2. Oh dear..* may have single handedly destroyed the Repug
party...

<snip>
One usual staunch Bush supporter, in Los Angeles, was heard to mutter "I may have to vote for Obama," during the week.
