Have the elites and fascists catalyzed a Democratic Reformation
Hey, it wouldn't be the first time.

Of course, the details are profoundly different, but the concept of "returning to" a Camelot Democracy resembles an historical European "about face" to a more trusted governmental system.

And our about face would be to what? Most critically, it would be to a Democratic Party that used to be called "populist" (basically a synonym of liberal and progressive).

The danger of coming down too hard on the Congressional Dems is that it makes it easy to forget that we had a "once upon a time" Democratic Party to be proud of, so in that sense it's not so much that we need a brand new Democratic Party, but simply a return to a party in which someone like Hillary Clinton (and probably Bill Clinton as well) wouldn't have lasted five minutes.

The Democratic Party used to be a party of deep and sincere values. The "little guy" always had a place and science was given the respect (and funding) it deserved. Most of us had only one job (can you still remember that?) since we weren’t funding Bush/Cheney Oil Wars and astronomical tax breaks for the elites. We also had health and retirement plans that were RELIABLE. To oversimplify, it was the party for the middle and lower classes. And THAT means (contrary to the DLC wimps), we had political representation. Just think about it. Political representation! Remember what that felt like, before the Nancy Peolsi and Harry Reed sleaze.

We actually had elected politicians who at least to some significant degree (no system is perfect), represented the will of registered Democrats. It's hard to remember what that felt like, since the beltway, DLC, Carville/Clinton dems spend all their time at the same elite hog trough as fascists and pugs.

And oh yes, we had a party that honored our noble Constitution to the letter.

So, we DO need a "Reformation" and no mistake, but it is realistic to think that's even possible? Well if there was ever a time to "think positive", this is it, and we've got to support in every way possible a return to a Democratic Party at its best.

This was a party who supported WORKING AMERICANS, not the one percent or less of Greek God like elites who have turned America into a Dictatorship of the Rich.

To the contrary, that once upon a time Democratic Party was our only DEFENSE against the vampire elites. Thanks to the DLC and Pelsoi, etc., that defense no longer exists and the astronomically rich are draining what's left of the blood of America. They're also rapidly bankrupting our nation in the process, since we're already basically "owned" by China and the elites of several other countries.

Sad, sad, sad, that our Ship of State is sinking rapidly, just as Mother Nature is being greedily raped murdered by Cheney/Halliburton type Texas Oil Corporations.

It's helps to remember these things, because it demonstrates that our political/social world is racing toward a Dictator of the Rich Police State for chiefly ONE REASON ONLY -- and that reason is that our once upon a time Democratic Party is being trashed and destroyed by Carville/Clinton, DLC, pseudo Democrats.

Thus, the Democratic Party, per se, is not and never has been the problem -- it simply needs a Reformation. It needs to be returned to the will of the people. It needs to be returned to liberal/progressive values and policies which have always been the beating heart, not only of our Democratic Party, but of our sacred Constitutional Democracy itself.

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be: Power to the People.

3. the Democratic Party is also under attack from the left
There are people right here on DU who are working hard to fracture the party, who say they are progressives.

They're scaring me today. If progressivism = preference for propaganda over truth, I want no part of it.

5. news for you buddy-the current dem party is a waisted burnt out shell
take a look at the voting record and even an idiot can see that the word Democrat is synonomous with corporate republicanism. It's sad when people cling to a word and ignore what goes on around them. Actually it's pathetic.

Reprobate,

Thanks for your support.

Yes, I would be willing to chat. I don't put any personal email on my site because there's just too many nut cases out there to take that chance, but most people don't pay much attention to the comments, so we can try it out. It's just a Yahoo address and I can easily change it.

[email protected]

ps About the locked post, more of that later. Perhaps I simply wasn't clear enough that I'm not down of the Democratic Party per se (as MILLIONS of former Democrats are!), since history seems to indicate the FDR Democratic Party was as good as it gets. Also, the assassination of JFK was sort of the death of Democratic Party idealism. To go from FDR to the present Democratic Congress is truly changing a circle into a square. I still have very positive feelings about DU since I think this site has done an enormous about of good. Maybe it was just a semantic disconnect.

Anyway, try out that address if you wish and we can go from there.

solidarity, Bill

p.s. Ironically, my primary focus isn't really on "politics" anymore anyway, since I think our only hope is politics-transcending activism like VERY carefully orchestrated boycotts and strikes. We still haven't got it that there are ENORMOUSLY POWERFUL apolitical things we can do. Indeed, I'm convinced that only such new social/political forms can save us. Certainly this can and should be both/and with reforming the dem party (what's left of it), but politics alone now is certain Constitutional and planetary death.

p.s. 2: Op-Ed News has an in house way to communicate together which would also work as a place to chat.
