Military plan against Iran is ready
Military plan against Iran is ready
By YAAKOV KATZ
Jun. 10, 2007 19:37

Predicting that Iran will obtain a nuclear weapon within three years and claiming to have a strike plan in place, senior American military officers have told The Jerusalem Post they support President George W. Bush's stance to do everything necessary to stop the Islamic Republic's race for nuclear power.

Bush has repeatedly said the United States would not allow Iran to "go nuclear."

A high-ranking American military officer told the Post that senior officers in the US armed forces had thrown their support behind Bush and believed that additional steps needed to be taken to stop Iran.

Predictions within the US military are that Bush will do what is needed to stop Teheran before he leaves office in 2009, including possibly launching a military strike against its nuclear facilities.

On Sunday, Sen. Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut said the US should consider a military strike against Iran over its support of Iraqi insurgents.

"I think we've got to be prepared to take aggressive military action against the Iranians to stop them from killing Americans in Iraq," he said. "And to me, that would include a strike over the border into Iran, where we have good evidence that they have a base at which they are training these people coming back into Iraq to kill our soldiers."

3. The media will make it sound sane.
I don't -think- people will buy it ..

.. but they've bought everything else Bushinc
has been selling so far..

.. and I also just don't see the logistics of how
such an attack would work.

Iran can fight back.

4. Juan Cole's take on Lieberman's warmongering...
http://juancole.com/

<snip>

That is why Senator Joe Lieberman's call for aggressive air strikes on Iran are unlikely to eventuate. Bush needs Abdul Aziz al-Hakim of the Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council in order to avoid immediate and complete defeat in Iraq, and SIIC is very, very close to Iran. Lieberman doesn't seem to understand, by the way, that Iraqi Shiites would mind the US bombing their coreligionists and would probably massacre the entire British garrison in Basra as well as interdict US fuel convoys to the north from Kuwait and Basra. His irresponsible warmongering would get a lot of US troops killed for no good reason. One only hopes he isn't talking this way primarily for the purposes of Israeli PM Ehud Olmert's rightwing government; he just met with Olmert and: "The two also discussed U.S. policy toward Iraq and the West's capabilities for dealing with the Iranian threat." If Lieberman and Olmert want to start another war, they should please do it themselves and leave American servicemen out of it.

8. I wouldn't get to worked up about this, the military is contunually
drawing up plans in the event that tensions rise to the level to need them. I see this as just another plan that will collect dust on a Generals desk at the pentagon unless it really hits the fan.

Lieberman is an idiot who wants to attack anyone in that region who isn't in Israel.

9. Iran would get a handful, even a couple of hundred--we still have 10,000
How are these guys able to scare the piss out of everybody about a handful of nukes when we stared down the Soviets who had about as many as us.

Even the nuke terrorist threat is BS. If a nuke goes off here, we will figure out a return address and nuke that country. If we can't figure out the return address, we will nuke whoever is at the top of our shitlist, which would be Iran now that Saddam is gone.

11. I truly believe that this will backfire against Bush; Americans are tired of war.
Iran will respond bigtime. Whatever we get in return is well-earned.
