CNN analyst Bill Schneider: The public wants action on Iraq -- now
CNN: Schneider: The public wants action on Iraq -- now
February 14, 2007
By Bill Schneider
CNN Senior Political Analyst

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Americans are getting frustrated over the Iraq war -- and not just with the Bush administration.

Nearly a third of Americans said in a CBS News poll that Iraq is the most important problem facing the country. No other issue was in double digits.

That's the main reason why President Bush's job approval remains low -- 32 percent. Congress isn't doing any better. Its approval rating was just as low, at 32 percent....

The public is as frustrated with Congress as it is with Bush for failing to start bringing the war in Iraq to a close.....

***

According to the USA Today/Gallup poll, nearly two-thirds of Americans -- 63 percent -- said they were bothered by the Senate's failure to hold a debate. Those who were bothered blamed Republicans more than Democrats by better than two to one (51 percent to 19 percent).

The people elected a Democratic Congress to stand up to Bush on the war. The people are waiting, and they're getting frustrated.

1. Are they finally realizing what November was about?
Now if our Democratic Congress people would realize it as well and get a spine and stop the mad man in the white house

3. Last evening on MSNBC
I think it was on Scarborough.

Several Reporters were discussing some most recent polls
which showed Democrats in Congress(House and Senate)
back to low approval ratings.

The Democrats after having won must get themselves on TV
and show they are doing something. I realize that after
being the minority for so long, they need to get their
moorings.

They have got to get past being so cautious.
Nacy Pelosi and the House have shown more gumption--
but the Senate seems unchanged. The Dems in the Senate
must just once--make some decisions that are good for
country and stop appearing their own re-election is
most important. They will lose our gains in no time
flat. For once stop being so concerned over those
Republicans who may have given you a few votes and
be a Democrat.

5. Maybe we are not discussing the real issue of the war: Is our oil supply secure?
I must admit that I never read the Baker/Hamilton report or even a summary. However, in the "debates" and deliberation I see in the media, I see no discussion of how the Straits of Hormuz or Iraq's oil is going to be managed when the US control of Iraq collapses for good.

6. If dems don't start talking about it, they may see a replay of 2004 in 2008.
IMO. They have to get going on it NOW.
