On the short end

The other day, President Bush finally acknowledged that "we aren't winning" in Iraq. Unfortunately, he qualified his statement by also saying "we aren't losing."
Nine-hundred-sixty attacks, and rising, on American and Iraqi targets per week isn't losing? Is Bush trying to call this a stalemate? Stalemates don't involve my country sacrificing its constitution in the name of freedom, spending tens of billions of dollars a month on an unjust and illegal war, disfiguring, maiming, paralyzing or body bagging dozens of soldiers each and every day, or refereeing a bloody civil war, which, by the way, we caused, that is getting worse and worse by the hour.

That, presidential qualifiers aside, is losing, in my book.
