Molly Ivins (Truthdig): Now They’re All For Bipartisanship
Having watched election coverage nonstop all week, I sometimes wake screaming, “Bipartisanship!” and scare myself.

Of all the viral members of the media who have been suggesting that the Dems cooperate with their political opponents, the one who rendered me almost unconscious with surprise was Newt Gingrich.

Newt Gingrich, the Boy Scout. Newt Gingrich, the man who sat there and watched Congress impeach and try Bill Clinton for lying about having an extramarital while he, Newt Gingrich, was lying about having an extramarital affair. (This all took place during his second marriage. The first one ended when he told his wife he was divorcing her while she was in the hospital undergoing cancer treatment.)

This is the level of Republican hypocrisy that reminds us all how far the Dems have to go. I tell you what. Let’s all hold hands together and sing, “Oh the Farmers and the Cowboys Should Be Friends!” Just not, please, Newt Gingrich, the man whose contribution to civility was to recommend that all Democrats be referred to with such words as cowards, traitors, commies, godless, liars and other such bipartisan-promoting terms.

2. Bueller? ..... Bueller?
Did anyone see Ben Stein on with Cavuto on Fox... I caught a repeat and Ben was there, acting all populist all of a sudden... talking tax increases on the rich!!! Cavuto trotted out all the old saws ("but won't this HURT the economy and hurt the poor?" and "If you increase revenue to the government, they will just spend it on something else and not reduce the debt")... and Ben was having none of that!

Anyway, I don't trust him, but I thought it was funny that he could be so populist all of a sudden. It's like he's been liberated and doesn't have to carry the water for the administration any... oh wait, that's Rush.

Well, I respect Ben for being smart (I always came close to beating him in "Win Ben Stein's Money, but he usually beat me, but not by much). But I never understood his politics.

Once upon a time, Republicans were already venal, but not yet universally ignorant and proud of it.

10. Ok, we'll be bipartisan.
We'll be the Democratic Party, they will be the Republicon Party.
That makes two parties, and so we'll have bipartisanship, since
bi means two, not one. We're sick of the unipartisanship of
rolling over for the Republicons. Oops, I make a couple of typos,
but I didn't mean anything by it, I'm not implying they're a
bunch of cons or anything.
