Karl Rove Gets No Apology From Me: Bill Press
Karl Rove Gets No Apology From Me
September 14, 2006
http://billpress.com/columns.html

So where’s my apology to Karl Rove?

Well, here’s my answer: Hell, no! Armitage’s involvement doesn’t disprove the Rove conspiracy. It only proves it was a lot wider than we originally thought.

Now, add it all up. Dick Cheney sics his staff on Wilson and Plame. And within a few days: Scooter Libby talks to Judy Miller, Karl Rove talks to Bob Novak and Matt Cooper, Dick Armitage talks to Bob Novak and Bob Woodward. And you expect me to believe that’s all just one big coincidence? They all just happened to come upon the same evidence at the same time and decided to leak it to the media?

Sorry. My gullibility can’t stretch that far. There were too many people involved — all out to get Valerie Plame because her husband dared undermine one of the president’s key, but phony, arguments for going to war in Iraq. No doubt about it. There was a deliberate, widespread conspiracy within the Bush Administration — all the way from the White House to the State Department — to retaliate against Joe Wilson by destroying his wife’s career at the CIA. And there’s only one person in the White House devious and powerful enough to organize such a campaign.

Dick Cheney, who essentially admitted on "Meet the Press" last week that he (unapologeticall) declassified the indentity of Valery Plame.

19. I saw that. He was a little confusing
the way he announced that. I also remember the monkey's changing the law about who can declassify secrets to add the dick.

The world and history will judge them harshly when we finally get the criminals in court.

I still volunteer for the firing squad. High noon on the WH lawn on any day.

9. Bill Press Is Soft On Rove
Bob Novak has not explained a lot of critical detail as well. The following is a story from long ago on this subject.

<http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/07/20/AR2005072002517_pf.html>

Armitage has said that the June 10, 2002 State Department memo that was given to Colin Powell on July 7, 2002 while in Africa was the sole source of his leak to Novak. This was one day after Joseph Wilson's op-ed piece was published in the NYT.

We know that Rove was not on the Africa trip. We also know that on July 11, 2002 Novak spoke with Rove and Rove confirmed that Valerie Plame was Joseph Wilson's wife and that she worked for the CIA.

Here is were it gets interesting. The June 10, 2002 memo that was prepared for Grossman and republished for Powell on July 7, 2002 identified Valerie Wilson as the wife of Joseph Wilson in a paragraph marked (S)ecret. How, from this memo did Robert Novak know to ask the CIA to confirm the employment of Valerie Plame and how did Rove know that Valerie Plame rather than Valerie Wilson was the wife of Joseph Wilson.

I have seen other reports, though the link above does not confirm, saying that this memo on July 7, 2002 was distributed to the WHIG, i.e., Libby, Hadley, Rove and a host of others. Rove's attorney has said that Rove did not see this memo until it was shown to him by Fitzgerald. Who did Rove talk to between July 7, 2002 and July 11, 2002 to bring him up to speed if it was much later when he first saw this memo.

The ducks are not in a row.

And Libby is not the only one lying.

10. Plame's civil suit will be interesting if it is not dismissed
at the outset. In criminal court, Fitzgerald would have to prove the elements of the charge beyond a reasonable doubt. But, in civil court, Plame and Wilson only need to prove their case by a preponderance of the evidence. That difference is crucial. Remember O.J. -- not guilty in the criminal court, but liable in civil court. Armitage's admissions raise more questions than they answer. This show has just opened. Let's hope the Plame/Wilsons happen to get a good judge.

14. I think we need to wait for Fitzgerald to finish before we accuse
him of dropping the ball. Rove may have provided the information to put Cheney in jail.
