CBC's Washington correspondent's Repub friend: 'We are in deep trouble'
Report from America
'We are in deep trouble'

Wednesday, August 16, 2006 | 11:43 AM ET
By Henry Champ

Yesterday I had a farewell lunch with Bruce.

He has finished 25 years as a top staffer on Capitol Hill and is taking his pension back to his home state in the Midwest, where he will work on literacy programs for inner-city youth.

(snip)

Bruce is leaving Washington, but not yet politics. He is a key strategist in the election campaign back in his home state. It's normally an easy job. Bruce's men generally win by 60 to 65 per cent.

Not this time.

"We are in deep trouble," he told me.

1. 50 seats! I would party for the rest of the year if we could do that.

3. That's what he said!!!
"Bruce said losing 50 seats in the House — be three times as many as the Democrats need to gain control — would not be surprising."

4. 15 would do it for me but 50 would be a serious party time event.

6. you beat me to it....
The Republicans are going to lose this fall, not just because of Iraq, but because they are showing themselves, as usual, to be completely out of touch with the average American. Sure, if you've got stock in oil companies and weapons/defense industries, or if you're one of the 5% who benefited from the Bush tax cuts, the economy is just great! If you're one of those who's had to cash in what little stock they had to pay the mortgage because they were out of work for nine months last year... well, that's a different story. And it's the story the majority of Americans are living.

These people just don't get it.

7. Except For One Thing....
The majority of brain dead repubs, are too STUPID to see the cause of their struggles.

My secretary, a church going, self-rightous King george supporter, who listens to rush each morning without fail, can barely make ends meet, and lives paycheck to paycheck.

But you will NEVER hear her criticize King george, or the economy. NO WAY! She'll follow him to the end of the earth, and believe whatever he tells her. Last week she was all concerned about the airport problems, even though she's been on a plane like once in the last 10 years. Yeah, this will impact her life. NOT!

Don't forget the 23% that are out there, whom John Dean wrote a book about. They would walk off a cliff for the repub party, and on the way down to their death, would criticize the Democrats for whatever.

8. I manned the Democratic booth at the County Fair today
in my Repub town.
I did the same thing two years ago before that election.

The difference was palpable. Many more thumbs up,
declarations of anger and even hatred for the current
administration, and people who wanted to come
up and vent for long periods.

I say it's different out there.
