Rewriting The Science
Edited on Sun Jul-30-06 07:29 PM by Texas Explorer
NASA's leading climate scientist, the same man highly regarded as the leading scientist on climate research, just appeared on 60 Minutes, placing himself in a position to lose his career, saying that officials in the White House are literally re-writing scientific findings on global warming.

He said that has grown weary of being silenced on his findings regarding global warming and that the Bush Administration is actively downplaying the seriousness of global warming and that a former oil lobbyist inside the White House, and who is a lawyer and not a climate scientist, is literally re-writing his reports.

He also stated that one reason for his speaking out despite the posibility of personal and profession consequences is because he believes that we only have about ten years before global warming tips the balance of Earth's climate to a point that it will be too late.

Though he didn't elaborate on what the consequences of out-of-control global warming would be, but you get the feeling it won't be nice.

Good for him. He may have just saved our asses. Then again, we may never hear from him again after tonight.

CBS.com just put up the story here: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/03/17/60minutes/main1415985.shtml

Edit: Looks like this story may have aired back in March. Was the show a rerun? And, if so, where was the outrage at this cover-up? Where is Marburger and why did his people tell 60 Minutes that he would never be available for comment on this issue? Even if I am late on the draw on this piece from 60 Minutes, it's still a relevant issue I'd like to see your thoughts on.

8. No, not in the
scientific sense, though I did start college as a physics major ;). No, explorer in the sense of outdoor adventure and exploration.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I've dropped in here from time to time and people here seem so nice.

19. Everyone on DU is nice...
when you agree with them ;-)

Hold on to your keyboard- it can be a bumpy ride on DU! Lots of hot-blooded liberals as well as sneaky "trolls" from
the other side who come in to disrupt. You will find your kindred spirits here- I know I have!

14. He means you need to edit your post with the actual headline...
...which is "Rewriting the Science."

Just one of those pesky Late Breaking News rules.

15. Now that

Cindy Sheehan has clandestinely aquired property in Crawford, Texas, the little town just might be out of the running to host the Bush Library, if even it was to start with.

21. wonder if CBS's own political rewriters made sure these 2 paragraphs
were in there-

"...Politically, Hansen calls himself an independent and he’s had trouble with both parties. He says, from time to time, the Clinton administration wanted to hear warming was worse that it was. But Hansen refused to spin the science that way...

The Bush administration doesn’t deny global warming or that man plays a role. The administration is spending billions of dollars on climate research. Hansen gives the White House credit for research but says what’s urgent now is action..."
