More crap from the GOP
Half the reason I hate them so much is because every time any of them say anything, they all immediately start screaming it at the top of their lungs. Consider this "article". It was published on GOPUSA, and it will be picked up by every right-wing Nazi blog in the country, and any time anyone does a google search on anything (as I did) they'll get 100 repeated hits of this article. More proof that Republicans take up too much space and need to be clear-cut.

Ban Stevie Wonder!
By Erik Rush
June 12, 2006

Isn't she pretty?
Truly the angel's best
Lord, I'm so happy
We have been Heaven blessed
I can't believe what God has done
Through us he's given life to one
But isn't she lovely made from love
- From "Isn't She Lovely" by Stevie Wonder, 1976

BANNED! Yes, banned by activists in a movement spearheaded by groups such as the American Civil Liberties Union and Americans United for the Separation of Church and State. "'Lord'? 'Heaven blessed'? 'What God has done'? Oh, that will never do. People are being force-fed religion subliminally every time they turn on the radio, you see..."

It will start innocently enough: "We don't believe these pro-religious songs should be banned per se -- we just don't feel that they should be carried by radio or television stations licensed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), since that violates the separation of church and state."

More crap here

1. I wonder if they know how many times the ACLU
has helped Christians defend their right to worship?

2. Hmm, OK, I read the article, but...
...I confess I'm still a little hazy after a late night, so please bear with me.

Who, exactly, is advocating the ban of these songs? I know the article accuses the ACLU and the AUSC, but then it says that the banning campaign "will start," implying it hasn't started already. Does the author know something about the ACLU's intentions that even the ACLU doesn't? I can't find a single fact in the article that shows that anyone on the 'left' has so much has uttered the word 'ban' in connection with these songs. There's some hogwash at the end about the AUSC trying to keep fundies missionaries out of prisons, but can't see how this has a bearing on the subject of the article.

Please help a tired and confused DUer.

4. Who knows?
Maybe no one is talking about banning them. It wouldn't be the first time Repubs have made up an issue out of thin air.

5. Variant on the strawman argument.
Sets up a fictional scenario, then attacks the fictional liberals who supposedly support that scenario.

full of sound and fury, and signifying nothing.

12. Exaggeration of imaginary threats
It's an old and stupid right wing trick... extrapolate a common sense position into a "future reality" that's wild fiction.

Wingnuts go out on the same limb when they warn that gay marriage will result in legal marriages to toddlers and farm animals.

I'm sooooo skeeered!!!

3. Here's a parry... ACLU Tries to Stop Warrantless Wiretapping
A story like this one below is a great STFU for the ACLU bashers.

I'd encourage the echo chambers to pick up on this story that highlights the ACLU fighting the good fight in a case that embodies the biggest wedge issue of the season for the right: Wiretapping.

ACLU Tries to Stop Warrantless Wiretapping

By SARAH KARUSH
The Associated Press
Monday, June 12, 2006; 10:52 AM

DETROIT -- Critics of the government's domestic surveillance program claim it violates the rights of free speech and privacy. The Bush administration says it is necessary and legal.

Both sides were in court Monday to argue the constitutionality of the program, with the American Civil Liberties Union seeking an immediate halt to warrantless wiretapping.

7. What a load of crap. First he invents a scenario which has not
happened, then he criticizes the people who he imagines would be responsible for said fictional event. The koolaid has turned hallucinogenic.

8. It would be funny if it weren't scary
The scary part being that a substantial number of stupid people will buy right into this.

10. "Jesus is Still Alright With Me"?
I'm a big fan of the Doobies, but I've never heard that one.

I know they did a song called "Jesus is Just Alright With Me".

Must have been a UK version or something.
