Chronic Case of Jessica Fatigue (Loads of stuff here)
Edited on Sun Nov-09-03 05:43 PM by Skinner
(snip)

In the corridors of the Bush administration, senior officials frankly admit that they would prefer the Jessica Lynch story simply went away. "The Private Lynch story is becoming a monster," said one administration official.

At the time of her rescue, America thought it had found a modern heroine in the plucky 19-year-old supply clerk, saved from the clutches of Iraqi militants by special forces.

Employing all its public relations know-how, the Pentagon decided to release the footage it had made at the time of the rescue. It was a decision that could be said to have spectacularly backfired.

At the time, the video of Private Lynch's rescue was a dazzling propaganda coup. But six months later, the lead protagonist has become a primetime whistleblower, and the facts of what actually happened in Nasiriyah are still hazy. America, finally, is falling out of love with the Jessica Lynch myth.

5. You Kick-ass, Jessica!
Just keep doing what your mom taught you to do: Tell the truth. It's a shame Barbara Bush failed in that regard.
