Rep. Joe Barton , Citgo , and Chavez.
There is an interesting dialogue on today's Democracy Now. Can be linked to on the net under title Democracy Now..Recommend this report. Barton offened that an oil company would discount its products to the poor. Or should one say, US oil campanies are demanding Barton to be offended. Anyone else outraged by Barton's Congressional investigation of Citgo.
Would not want to embarsss a US oil company over their outrageous profits.

1. Capitalism is predicated upon the notion of control over resources
Edited on Fri Feb-24-06 03:07 PM by Selatius
If you can control a resource, then you can gain a position of power over those who need that resource to survive. In our case, money is used to facilitate that position of power.

You pay the owner or the shareholder for the privilege, not the right, to have access to things such as food, medicine, fuel, even a college education. If you have no money, that's too bad. You can subjugate yourself further though as a way to compensate your owner.

In our case, what Chavez is doing represents an undermining of that control. From the capitalist perspective, this is not tolerable. If I were a stone-cold capitalist, I would be complaining as well.

I cannot make a profit if I cannot have control over the resource; therefore, it is a good idea to attempt to destroy Chavez as a threat and reassert total control.

Barton is simply acting as a servant for the people who contributed to his campaign, which is probably the same capitalists who are pissed off right now.

2. I sent this *&^%* an email
I'm so ashamed he's my Rep, but i live in Texas. The only thing i can do is vote and work against him and i do both.

I just can't figure these people out, Citigo does something that hurts no one and helps many and these Repuks want to stop it. I just don't get it!
