Republicans do eat their own, from the Clockwork Orange
KEN CALVERT'S MOD SQUAD

(snip)

Now the OC Blog, egged on by an item on right-wing lunatic Michelle Malkin's blog, is portraying Rep. Ken Calvert, as a -- DUNT-DUNT-DUNNNN!!!! -- flaming GOP moderate! A "squishy" flaming GOP moderate at that!

(snip)

It seems the RINO Club of moderate Republicans opposes oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, a view Calvert apparently shares. Malkin and OC Blog obviously do not. "Calvert's breaking bread with other squishy moderates such as Sens. Snowe, McCain, 'Bridge to Nowhere' Stevens, Chafee and the swishy Rep. David Dreier," drools OC Blog. You know a right-winger's panties are in a bunch when he/she plays the gay card when referring to Dreier, something they consistently and categorically deny publicly -- until he recently had the audacity to try to become House speaker or oppose potential destruction to one of the most pristine places on the planet in exchange for a relatively paltry amount of oil.

(snip)

But back to Ken Calvert: a moderate Republican?

During the 108th Congress (2003-2004), Calvert voted for school vouchers, a pork-ridden energy bill, tax cuts for corporations and the wealthy, and the infamous Medicare prescription drug bill a.k.a. enormous give-away to the pharmaceutical industry, while he opposed women's abortion rights, overtime for federal workers, black-lung protections for coal miners and religious-discrimination protection for public employees. ProgressivePunch.org gave Calvert a 5.10 rating (out of a scale of 100, with 100 being the most progressive and 0 being the least progressive), which put him 330 out of 435 House members. That ranking put him TO THE RIGHT of Royce and Rohrabacher!

(snip)

When it comes to the environment, Calvert is not exactly a Teddy Roosevelt either. But just two examples:
-- During the 2001-2002 term, Calvert voted to exempt the Department of Defense from complying with certain environmental regulations.
