The President Visits With San Diegans, Sort Of

By KEITH TAYLOR

Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2005

Hey, a visit from the President of the United States! This figured to bring more excitement to San Diego than a baseball team trying to perform the mathematically unlikely feat of winning the pennant while losing more games than it wins.

Something like our current war.

Our president, familiar with baseball, but who learned about war only after he moved into 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., came to town to talk about it. He would explain it to some who got a damn site closer to it than a National Guard unit in Alabama. Special guests were veterans of World War II plus sailors, Marines, their families and deserving other folks, very carefully selected. The commander in chief was thus assured of the adoring crowd he needs to validate his resolve.

The hoi polloi were kept outside the fence at North Island, far from their leader...

1. Nice editorial
The absence of the F-111 at the festivities is a noteworthy observation.
The fact that this was happening as our fellow citizens were drowning, is incredible.

4. Where is this photo from? I'd like to forward it around and use it with a
article or two that I'm working on, but need to know who took it, where it was originally published, and if I need a photo credit line or permission to reprint.

2. That SOB never flew an F-111
Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 02:54 AM by craigolemiss
F-111 is a HUGE 2 seat fast tactical fighter bomber

dubya flew a "cant f*** it up" F-102A single seat interceptor,--he did however fly for the 111th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, Texas ANG

the planes are very very different. And even saying that he saw an F-111 gives him more credit than he is worth.
