Bush Knew About Leak of CIA Operative's Name
From Capitol Hill Blue

Bush Knew About Leak of CIA Operative's Name

By Staff and Wire Reports
Jun 3, 2004, 05:28

Witnesses told a federal grand jury President George W. Bush knew about, and took no action to stop, the release of a covert CIA operative's name to a journalist in an attempt to discredit her husband, a critic of administration policy in Iraq.

Their damning testimony has prompted Bush to contact an outside lawyer for legal advice because evidence increasingly points to his involvement in the leak of covert CIA operative Valerie Plame's name to syndicated columnist Robert Novak.

The move suggests the president anticipates being questioned by prosecutors. Sources say grand jury witnesses have implicated the President and his top advisor, Karl Rove.

White House spokesmen, however, dismiss the hiring of outside counsel as a routine precaution.

WOW, where was that story? I'm not familiar with that site, maybe for a reason. Should I invest in tinfoil futures?

Bigotry and Broad-Brush Smears
When discussing race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, or other highly-sensitive personal issues, please exercise the appropriate level of sensitivity toward others and take extra care to clearly express your point of view.

Do not post messages that are bigoted against (or grossly insensitive toward) any person or group of people based on their race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, lack of religion, disability, physical characteristics, or region of residence.

While specific words are not automatically forbidden, members should avoid using racist, sexist, homophobic, or otherwise bigoted terminology. This includes gender-specific terms such as "bitch," "cunt," "whore," "slut," or "pussy," and terms with homophobic derivation, such as "cocksucker," which are often inflammatory and inappropriate. One common exception is the use of the phrase "media whore," which is permitted.

Personal Attacks, Civility and Respect
The administrators of Democratic Underground are working to provide a place where progressives can share ideas and debate in an atmosphere of mutual respect. Despite our best efforts, some of our members often stray from this ideal and cheapen the quality of discourse for everyone else.

...The fact that the rules do not forbid a certain type of post does not automatically make an uncivil post appropriate, nor does it imply that the administrators approve of disrespectful behavior.
Every member of this community has a responsibility to participate in a respectful manner, and to help foster an atmosphere of thoughtful discussion. In this regard, we strongly advise that our members exercise a little common decency, rather than trying to parse the message board rules to figure out what type of antisocial behavior is not forbidden.
....
Please note that sweeping statements about entire groups of fellow progressives are not categorically forbidden. However, they are often inflammatory and counterproductive and the moderators have broad discretion to remove such posts in the interests of keeping the peace on the message board.

9. So John Dean's educated guess looks to be correct about Bush
In his book "Worse than Watergate" and in other op ed's on Findlaw.com, John Dean said that for Bush to consult an independent lawyer indicates that he may have at the very least knowledge of who leaked Plame's role with the CIA, which is a felony. At worse, Bush is the leak, which would be treason and one of the major reasons the US Constitution gives for impeaching a President.

If it's true that Bush knew who leaked Plame's identity or leaked it himself, than Bush is Nixon reincarnated.

12. Has this memo been mentioned by any other source?

Even though he has a White House counsel, Bush is dependent on outside lawyers for private matters. A memo distributed to the staff last year reminded officials that the counsel's office works solely for the president in his official capacity and is not a private attorney for anyone.

According to what I have heard, if anyone consulted the White House lawyers about this, they don't have attorney/client privilege because the client is the government, not the White House employees.

14. Not that I am aware of, at least not recently. I vaguely remember
Ken Starr going after Clinton's attorney and making the case that because he worked for the government the information was not privileged. Didn't Starr get a favorable ruling on that issue? I think so.

13. Just to play on the irony...Treason is punishable by a maximum penalty
of death. If the above comes to pass, and bush is actually impeached, tried and convicted in the Senate, and sentenced to death...I wonder if Karma would be appeased...

The greatest purveyor of the DP, becomes a victim of the DP....strange, sweet irony. Virtually impossible for all of this to come around, but seeing bush strapped to a gurney, begging for his life before the drugs are pumped into his veins, is a stange mental picture to say the least....:)

I just wonder how many nano-seconds it would take for the rabid right to call for an end to the DP?

18. From what I have read here on DU...
The statute of this law sets the maximum penalty of a fine and 10 years.
Too many people have died already. Stop the killing. Find some other way to neutralize him.
