was in the drug store today out here in Podunk. Some old guy in front of me was picking up his little paper bag of prescription medicine. The lady behind the counter handed him a credit card slip and said, "I'm sorry."

She was sorry because the bill was over $1,200. The old man stared at the charge card receipt and stared at it some more. Hesitating, he signed, then said, "I hope I die before I have to pay for the next re-fill."

He wasn't joking. The lady behind the counter said, "Oh, don't ever say that." And she said it in such a way that it was clear she'd heard the same thought before, in different words, from too many of the old folk that come by.

And I was thinking, "I wonder if he voted for Bush?".......

3. We saw a friend the other day...

He is on Social Security and Medicare. He said that he wrote out a check recently for over 1,000 for refills for three of his meds. This country is very badly off course. Endless war, with the Chimp babbling about spending "as much as it takes," and seniors praying for death because they can't pay for the drugs needed to keep them healthy anyway.

What a shameful way for a country which was founded with such promise to slip into 3rd world status under Republican rule.

that my work permit for the lovely NHSified UK has just been approved. Even in Oz our pharams our going to cost more since we foolishly signed the FTA with you lot.

My sister buys her meds from Canada. That will be gone soon I am sure.
