Kitty Kelley not purring about critics
Kitty Kelley not purring about critics

By MARIANNE MEANS
SYNDICATED COLUMNIST

WASHINGTON -- Hell hath no fury like a female author scorned. And a good thing, too.

Kitty Kelley, the controversial celebrity biographer, is getting even with her critics in the just-issued paperback of her scandalous but well-researched examination of the president's spoiled, dysfunctional life: "The Family: The Real Story of the Bush Dynasty."

Before the hardcover book was published, the contents were surrounded in secrecy; no advance copies, no leaks. Yet without having read a line, Republican sycophants trashed it relentlessly with extremist language like "garbage" and "fiction."

Kelley has been through this brutal artillery before. Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor and Nancy Reagan all tried to sink her literary ship after her biographies of them pointed out flaws they preferred to keep hidden.

2. The press has done it to themselves. The strange thing is, the
more they suck up to the WH, the more they are distained by the RW. Now they have no RW credibility, no LW credibility and a long time legacy of being marginalized by the public.

Kitty Kelley is not the first to criticize "freedom of the press." I first read an excellent afterword about the state of publishing and reporting by Reporter Pete Brewton in his book, The Mafia, The CIA and George Bush (Bush41.)

Think I'll start collecting the afterwords.

3. Larry King had Kelley on to talk about her books
on Jackie Kennedy, Sinatra, the Royal Family, and all the others. He didn't seem to worry about his relationships with the subjects. Why was it different this time? Old Larry knows which side his bread is buttered on.

I read the book and it wasn't nearly as hard on the Bushes as I had expected it to be.

4. If she just made up a big smear job on the Clinton's
the same sycophants would be wetting themselves on how good she is. Spoiled doesn't even begin to describe W.
